First swing of the season...

Unread post by BB »

First swing of the season yesterday (4/07/05), I think. Talking about the swing bridge over the Manistee Channel. I think this is the first for the season. At lunch I had seen some CSX MOW pickups at the bridge, probably giving it an inspection for opening it. Then around 4pm the train was waiting around the bend where the tracks use to go to Traverse City (picture below). Then the freighter McKEE SONS was navigating its way through the channel. It had to wait out in Lake Michigan because the US 31 draw bridge needed to be cleared because their still working on it. Also I think the other draw bridge closer to Lake Michigan had developed a problem. So the boat came through a little after 5:30pm and the train crossed the river before 6:30pm.

Passing the swing bridge. This freighter is technically a barge since it's a tug that pushes it. More info can be found here: http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fleet/mckee.htm
