A freighter ran aground in the Detroit River near the Grosse Isle bridge, while trying to deliver coal to the DTE Trenton Power plant.

I know the DTE Trenton power plant gets coal trains regularly, so why would they bother to ship coal to the power plant by water, from Toledo, which is only about 35 miles from Trenton. That coal almost certainly arrived in Toledo by rail, and then had to be unloaded and reloaded into the lake freighter for the final 35 miles or so to Trenton. Makes no sense.

If it's the manitowoc, looks like they came from Duluth with a load of Western coal.

boatnerd.com reported the Manitowoc was loaded with ore at Marquette last Friday waiting out the gale on Lake Superior. Most likely sailed Saturday to Toledo, unloaded and then loaded coal for Trenton. Went through Detroit around 1600 Monday bound for Toledo.

In the past DTE has gotten blended coal to use in the power plant. They blend it right there at the docks in Toledo and then load onto ships for delivery.
