It's the WAMX 7030 which according to Diesel Shop had been the WSOR 702. It's in WSOR paint with WAMX reporting marks.

There is a WSOR GP7 in Elkhart due to come north today. It will be used on one of the yard jobs. Northbound they will have all three WSOR units in the consist plus the 4125 and 4206.

That new loco # 7030 is coming north now on A 5 unit consist. Just cleared threw three rivers at 18:00. That train is the GDLK 303!

Search for Wisconsin Southern 702 and you can find pictures of it. Look up the Wisconsin Southern roster at Diesel Shop and you can find the original ATSF number. Then if you search GP7u you can find a page at atsfrr.net that will tell you what ATSF did when they rebuild it in 1981.

It's the 303 crew. They went south with the 4206 and 4125. The WSOR units were already in Elkhart. I don't know where the 302 crew was today.

According to the conductor on 501 302 had a mechanical issue with water on one of the units. 303 was going south this morning to rescue the stranded units. They were left in Elkhart yesterday.

I think a unit built in 1952 is a GP7 unless its been upgraded

Yes Don it is a GP7u upgraded by ATSF in 1981 spent a considerable amount of time at Corwith yard in Chicago. ATSF chopped the nose added air conditioning. Went to WSOR now the ELK.

The 4124 is still setting up in Hugert. I had heard talk of the engine being replaced at Hugert and the whole unit being shipped off to "Kentucky" to have the engine replaced. But it still sets.

Thanks Pat your the ELK front man I can always rely on so I knew you would know. I'm curious though why wouldn't Watco use the Horicon shop and do it in house if Hughart can't? Is Kentucky cheaper or because it's a whole engine? I notice on the GP7u it lost its ATSF rotating beacon and air conditioning on the WSOR.

All I heard was it was coming for "the yard job". Unless 302 and 501 go dead on a night the 303 power lays over in Grand Rapids it would seem like the 100 job would always have a unit available at Gerhart. Perhaps the 3531's days are numbered.

Another possibility is a new customer coming on line in Bristol next month. According to 501's crew they will be taxed when that happens. If they go dead too often another local might be in the works or 303 bats clean - up. Only time will tell. If the Pfizer job gets the new unit then Jerry Kern will have run it on WSOR and ELK. He worked in Janesville for a while. He also ran the 85 on the KLS & C in Paw Paw on the wine train which was another ATSF GP7.

I just hope that GP7 gets based out of GR, I would love to see it pass the depot in Wayland.

7030 went up to Grand Rapids yesterday for some shop work such as water as it was drained before it was shipped to Michigan. 303 took her up and according to the office at Gearhart yard she'll be back down this week and assigned there for switching the yard. 302 today was unusual as it had only 4002 with a solid grain train for Andersons. Came back light. 3829 and 4017 were the 105 today and backed out of Gearhart after the two Amtraks were clear of the plant at BO around 10:45 am. All tracks in Gearhart except track 11 are in service.

Pushing the side of a cylinder liner out is a sound I never want to hear again, I don't even want to think if dropping a pair of assembly's. Thank god nobody was hurt and there was no base explosion (all the more reason to NEVER stand next to one of these any longer then you need to, especially under load..)

Having the best maintenance standards or engines isn't going to do a thing if the crews don't treat things right...something to remember.

Is that a 567B liner? Looks like it has the in-block lower coolant ports. What unit did that thing come out of? That's an impressive cylinder wall failure. I don't think I have ever seen any engine fail like that, and I have seen some wild failures.
