1225 Return to Rails Excursion
Based on posts on TO and Facebook, it appears as if the 1225 will NOT be pulling the excursion this Saturday.

Re: 1225 Return to Rails Excursion
The 1225 will not be pulling the excursion due to circumstances beyond SRI's control. Things have popped up that will prohibit the run being pulled this weekend by PM 1225. These are not mechanical issues with the engine as have been previously stated. The engine is 100% ready to pull the trip but other obstacles are in the way that have nothing to do with the engine or certifications with the engine.
Something to remember about this trip is that all questions, comments and concerns about the Pere Marquette 1225 not running on this trip should be directed to Railyard Productions as they contracted SRI to run this trip. They leased the locomotive and coaches from SRI. SRI had nothing to do with the planning, execution or sales... Only providing motive power and rolling stock.

Power will be provided by GLC GP units.

So is someone reneging on their agreement?BerkshireKid wrote:The engine is 100% ready to pull the trip but other obstacles are in the way that have nothing to do with the engine or certifications with the engine.

No agreements were voided or "reneged" on. Plain and simple... Things happened so no 1225 on the trip. SRI and the promoter both wanted to run with PM 1225.
Stay tuned.... Im sure Railyard Producttions will offer an official statement in the next day or two.

I won't believe it til I see RYP or GLC say it officially.
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

I am part of the crew and have just been notified by my CMO... Call times for all crews (servicing and operating) are changed to reflect diesels pulling the train. Crew that was essential to operations unless previously notified now DO NOT have to report for duty unless you want to.
Sounds pretty official to me.

Re: 1225 Return to Rails Excursion
SRI says "legal problems" and RYP's site says that SRI has the right to substitute motive power. But they are still selling tickets and pitching it's the 1225 return to the rails excursion.

As someone who has dealt with Museum's and photo charter type operations, one thing is always certain: Cross your T's and dot your I's before you sell tickets. I have had to bite it (physically and monetarily) on a few occasions because I thought and said things were in place but they were not. I feel sorry for the passengers and families that paid that kind of money (last figures were $100 a coach seat? IIRC) to have 1225 run, and all she'll be doing is sitting at SRI while the GLC geeps do what they do best.

Ah okay, Now I know who "BerkshireKid" is......
Re: 1225 Return to Rails Excursion
Just read an article on the Trains web site that said the issue is the engines weight over some of the bridges on the route.

Re: 1225 Return to Rails Excursion
Why does it "smell fishy"? SRI had said yesterday that the issue was uncontrollable, and referred questions to RYP, because SRI is not responsible for the excursion. Meanwhile, we've got speculation of a cover-up (not just here, lots of places)! Do you REALLY think that an organization made up mostly of railfans is gonna cancel an excursion at the last minute just to screw with people and take their money?
Bottom line is, sit tight, and wait for the official releases. And it came out earlier today, but apparently some just cannot wait 36 hours and turn on SRI and RYP in the meantime.

Those who are clearly in-the-know are...correct!The excursion will still operate as planned over the entire route but will be pulled by diesels, according to Railyard Productions President Robert Teed. On the return trip from Clare, the Steam Railroading Institute, which owns and maintains No. 1225, will send the engine to meet the train en route at a point to-be-determined and pull it back to Owosso, where passengers will be invited to take a closer look at the Berkshire.

Re: 1225 Return to Rails Excursion
What the Trains article didn't mention is who first came up with the concerns over the weight on those bridges. It wasn't GLC or SRI or RYP.
I used to get paid for doing what all of you like to watch!

A shortened excursion is better than the 1225 in a creek.
