Jackson & Lansing equipment

Unread post by Dan Cluley »

I've seen their northbound train coming in the Mason a couple of times recently with one or both of the green geeps, and realised that I haven't seen the GP-15s around for a while. Anybody know if they are hiding in the new engine house, or did those go back to the lessor?

Also, it looks like the old Conrail caboose is gone from Saginaw yard (along with the mobile home office buildings) Anyone know what happened to it?

Back to the lessor Dan. My sources warned me about that last summer.

Are you sure they're gone? I thought I saw an orange and a green unit southbound from Lansing from the I96 overpass a week or 10 days ago.

The Railmark-owned Conrail caboose was sent to Padnos (North of Saginaw Yard) last year to be scrapped.

Thanks for the info. :)

I've figured out their morning schedule. They pretty much always come North in to Mason 10 minutes after I get into the house. Seriously though, I hear them most weekdays between 8:30-9 AM

I think that would be PC 18515 to CR 18515 to ABRX 18515, correct?

Thanks, Roger, Marietta, OH

I believe this is the caboose in question.

Funny, the rumor that I heard was that they were supposed to be returned in June or July 2011.

Bingo, Jon. Yes, that caboose got torched at the Padnos facility North of Saginaw Yard.

This morning the crew brought a string of 21 coil cars north using one of the LTEX GP-15's and one of the GP-9's. Later on both were tied down in Mason close to the other GP-9. The other GP-15 is most likely still in the new barn.

Does anyone have a picture of the new engine shed in Mason?

It doesn't surprise me that guesses about the GP15's conflict with each other.

Not too long ago I was listening to a short line CEO's presentation and he was asked about a particular engine's whereabouts. He confidently and unhesitatingly said it was in ABC town. However, a few hours later someone posted a current/realtime picture of said engine in XYZ town. There were no trains running that day.

So even if you ask the chief sometimes you still get the wrong answer

I hear the GP15's are alive and well. Might see the GP9's more because they might be equipped for cold weather operation.

You heard that they are being returned somewhere. And, I heard from a well placed reliable source that they are going to be scrapped on site. So, which is it?

The GP-15s? Those old Conrail units have a lot of wear on them and I have seen some pretty bad ones but none that would warrant being scrapped on site.
