I recall quite a few where the people survived. But yes,It seems CN is the favored murder motor for them.M.D.Bentley wrote:This years count is 4, all CN I think.

Re: Another suicide in Downriver
Just because someone attempts suicide and survives still makes it a suicide attempt. This woman was on her cell phone with her boyfriend telling him that she was going to kill herself, when she was hit. The other ones were wrapped up in their own worlds when they got hit. Take off the headphones, turn down the music, stay off the tracks.
Re: Another suicide in Downriver
I walked the tracks plenty as a kid, to and from school each day. Never even came close to getting hit by a train. I don't get it. The ground rumbles when a train is even a half mile away. And you can hear the horn for miles.
I've always wondered: If you're operating a locomotive, you know you can't possibly stop in time to avoid hitting someone on the tracks. Does putting the train in emergency really help? If not, why not use normal braking and avoid damage or a possible derailment?

Because, If you don't do everything in your power to prevent hitting something that's in your way , the railroad will fire you! If you use the train brakes , the lawyers will say "DID you even try the emergency brakes?" Well no.Oh so you wanted to hit the victim? WTF ! BUT this is how things transpire. I think a new campaign with signs that state " Persons that are hit by a train and injured or killed on these railroad tracks will NOT be compensated."

Re: Another suicide in Downriver
I'm in total agreement with the sign M.D. Bently proposes. Seariously, people will never learn- at least 4 incidents downriver this year alone, I believe it was 3 last year, and surely more to come. I also think it terrible that the crews have to put up with this. Who's to say their jobs should, by Murphy's Law, include the near-guaranteed tragedy of causing some thoughtless or troubled person's death. People need to learn respect for others and themselves.
Re: Another suicide in Downriver
Hate to say it, but if someone is willing to take their life, they will. The only thing we can do to prevent it is educate people on the impact and outcome it has. It's a permanent fix to a temporary problem, and plus it's not the nicest thing to do to a train crew considering the fact that they life with that for the rest of their life. All my thoughts and sympathy go to the train crew, family members, and loved ones. Too bad this had to happen.

Perhaps a "Trespass at your own risk" or something like that next to "No Trespassing" could eliminate a good chunk of settlements.

I'd tell the jury I had to decide whether to risk one life on the tracks or three (or hundreds) on the train in a split second. And I'd sleep like a baby.
I've had people cross the centerline in front of me on a 55 mph road so they could give a bicyclist room. Some things just don't make sense.
