CSX/C&O spur into Northville Mental Hosptial

I was wondering if anyone had any pictures or info on the old CSX/C&O spur that used to go into the Old Northville Mental Hosptial.

Most if not all state operated hospitals had spurs for coal delivery at one time or another. Some of them were a little ways away from mainlines and requested a lengthy run to reach.

Although the rails and ties are gone the ROW for the spur is still very much recognizable even today.

The coal dumping dock is still there to this day with the rails intact. I can only imagine seeing a Chessie local shoving cars into that plant

Been a lot of talk on the news recently about Northville Township redeveloping the property. Most of the buildings on the property are slated for demolition soon.

Back in 2008 there was talk of the city of Livonia annexing the property from Northville Township and incorporating into the city of Livonia. It even went to a vote but failed to pass. I think now the plan is to turn it into greenspace.

Rumor is the hospital is coming down this year. Property is going to become residential and I believe Light industrial. I think they are looking to make some into a park not sure how many acres.

Gonna make it a park Eric. Just like Mayberry, which also at one time was a state hospital site.

Don its really not a joke. I know a few who have been caught and lets just say the fine is upwards of $500 plus community service. Its still STATE land until the buildings are torn down. Its not a safe place to go or to visit although the "urban explorers" that have have brought out some excellent photos of the old Mental Hospital.
