Does this mean the Fremont one will close? Could be bad for the Michigan Shore.

A newspaper article said Fremont was supposed to increase rail car shipments from 500 to 850 a year 8ish years ago. I'm not sure where those numbers came from because the actual inbounds seem much lower than even the 500.

Out of Owosso Michigan...Looks like a one to two track spur will connect into the new Cargill Animal Feed Mill in Owosso Michigan for GLC. Which sounds like potential for more rail traffic to go along with that Soybean Processing Plant up north in Ithaca. Groundbreaking has already commenced.

A transload opened up in Windsor Ontario about a year ago...It has grown considerably. It's possible that traffic could trickle across the river in translation of rail shipments on the US side of the river.

Could this large Amazon Distribution Center bring some more rail business to the Metro Detroit area? It's going to be in Livonia. Either way, up to 1500 new jobs coming to the Detroit area.

The Free Press has more info on it. It's going to be on the former GM property along Eckles Road and the Detroit Sub.

I doubt it. Amazon moves product like lightning, something the railroads cannot do. If anything they'd probably be getting intermodal containers delivered by truck.

Would the Amazon facility be large enough to demand their own train? I have only heard of one customer (in Wisconsin) that used to get its own dedicated IM train several days per week from the WC. I don't know if that train still runs.

This Amazon facility is just another regional warehouse for the delivery of goods. Doubtful that it will receive rail service. Traffic will probably be trucks in and trucks out. Amazon has no need for rail service in their fast-paced and delicate logistics process.

At one time they were the largest shipper between Kalamazoo and Michigan City. They closed for a while and when reopened with a smaller operation. It's been years since I heard how much rail business they're doing.

Had a delivery today in Middleton and noticed today that GLC has,or has had for a while now a new customer there.CHS Hamilton bought the Anderson's Facility about a year ago,the old "JBC Grain"and have been seeing what I figured was feed being transloaded there. Confirmed today as they was unloading hoppers there into semi's,this operation has been happening for a while now. Feed has become a good commodity for GLC lately, with this location. Plus McBain,Cadillac, and soon the new mill in Owosso.

GLC is also delivering fertilizer for Gratiot Agricultural Professional Services in Middleton. I think GAPS started a couple years ago.
