Raildudes dad answered, "Howell Fairgrounds."

I lst it at the Fowlerville Fairgrounds. Roger
Yup, the Fowlerville Fairgrounds, west of Fowlerville, west of Howell. The trucks still are at the movers place west off Howell :)

Michigan C&O Caboose

Unread post by caboose9 »

Hi,

Wood, cupola, C&O 90845 caboose is reported as stored by owner Joseph Maxwell, at the GM Dephi Plant, Coopersville, MI, and as on display at Montcalm Community College Heritage Village, Sidney, MI.

My guess is that Joseph Maxwell donated or sold the 90845 to Montcalm CC for their heritage village. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks, Roger

Hi,

Here are 2 caboose reports from the UP of Michigan:

LS&I 5, wood, cupola, no address given, Marquette, MI, for sale; &

LS&I? 5?, wood, cupola, no trucks, Cabin, Bootjack Rd., near Torch Lake, Lake Linden, MI.

The easy answer would be that the Marquette car was purchased and moved to Lake Linden. On the other hand, without confirmation that could be the easy but incorrect answer!

Does anyone have any information on this caboose/these cabooses?

Thanks, Roger

A caboose appeared in the yard of a neighbor around the corner tonight. The trucks had arrived earlier this week on a trailer. The caboose had a set of semi trailer wheels placed under it and was being towed by a semi. Too dark to get a good look at it and ID it. Appeared to be a wooden caboose. Anyone know anything about a caboose being moved to Boston Township in SW Ionia county? It is in the 11000 block of Peck Lake Rd.

Here'a a thought.

Steel, end cupola, ATSF 1583 to GTW 75004 has been sitting unused at the corner of Cleveland & Riverside, near Gregory's Tavern, Ionia, MI, since it came there from the KOA in Kimball, MI, 9 or 10 months ago.

With no firm information about the mystery caboose the above makes good sense.

When the sun rises tomorrow we'll see how good (or bad) my theory is!

Cheers, Roger

That sounds like steel, streamlined cupola AA 2830 to DT&I 121 to M&LS 8 caboose owned by Duncan Erving, 2040 M-32, near Vienna, MI. Roger

It might be steel. It did appear to have an end cupola.

It is red, wooden and has a center cupola. No visible markings. Trailer it is on says "Crummy Hauler".

So much for my 1st guess!

Wood, center cupola, would suggest C&O or GTW, but ...?

Truck &/or center sill markings might give us a clue or 2.

Galesburg, MI, Cabooses

Unread post by caboose9 »

Hi,

About 12 years ago it was reported that Dr. James Smith, Galesburg, MI, has four cabooses - PM/C&O A609, ATSF?/GTW #?, GTW 77028, & PRR/D&M 207 - on his property. About 3 years ago someone, who didn't have an actual address, did tell me "they are south of town on S. 38th St."

Surely someone must know if and where these four cabooses are located or that they have been moved.

Does anyone maintain a listing a extant/preserved Michigan &/or D&M &/or GTW cabooses?

Any help will be appreciated, Roger

I don't see it in this thread, but Port Huron & Detroit caboose 62 is part of the PH&D Historical Society's collection, after being sold to COE several years backs. It is one of two offset bay window (steel) cabooses owned by the PH&D.

I would like to know where these cabooses were before the PH&D got them. The trucks on 62 have "C.R.R." cast in the side frames. Also, would there be a builders plate on the caboose with a serial number, similar to a locomotive?

Thank you.

They were built for the PH&D.

Trucks may have come from Coe RR?

The ex PC N-11 yard caboose at Saginaw Yard in Lansing for decades has departed for points unknown. It was advertised in the Sterling catalog a year ago for $14,500.
