GLC ran it up to Middleton with 35 grainers two weeks ago
Oakley and the cars were empty.
Why did this pull freight to Oakley? Was GLC in a pinch?
I believe they had crews working all over the place and with the ongoing grain rush needed power elsewhere

What is the current status of the C&NW 175 at SRI? If it was ready couldn't they use that for power?

From a rumor, there “paying there dues” with SRI apparently putting in money on a siding in Ashley. So SRI could run more Friday trains, and GLC won’t be interrupted from there grain season, and then using the switcher I guess was a part of the deal

Or maybe getting crews familiar with a switcher before 1977 starts running

Or they were simply power short

Ok I’ll say it - an SW hauling a long string of passenger cars over the road full of cheery passengers may be less impressive than a storming 2-8-4, but it’s at least as rare. I’d go chase them for a trip if I lived closer.

Perhaps one day 1155 and 1977 will join switcher forces and try to take over the world. Or at least lead a shorter excursion or two. That would be cool to see.

But here’s my question. For hauling a dozen or a dozen and a half passenger cars, is superheated steam necessary? It seems like the benefits of superheated steam come with trying to accelerate with a heavy freight consist, not a comparably-lightweight passenger train. Just asking!

My guess, not being an expert would be no, it isn't required, BUT, the design of the locomotives is such that they use the superheaters, so I don't think there is just a switch to turn off the superheaters on a steam locomotive. If there is an issue with a superheatert tube, it renders the entire unit inoperable.

they're "paying their dues"

There is most commonly used to mean “at that point” or “in that place.”
Their is the possessive form of the third-person plural pronoun “they.” It means “belonging to them.”
They're is a shortened version of “they are.”

I would not write they're. It is only one character shorter than they are. It saves a syllable when speaking.

175 is no where near being ready and is still deep in its overhaul

We will be digging into 1225 on Tuesday when we all get back to work after taking the holidays off.
Thanks to all who donated towards the superheater repairs!

Hope you get it all squared away Aaron. One can hope it's just a bad weld that didn't hold up and nothing too serious.
