GDLK Operations
Re: GDLK Operations
I noticed the coke cars the GDLK is delivering to the MSO seem to be staying in White pigeon. There were five of them on the old wye spur and two more on the inbound track. Who ever is receiving them is getting quite a few.
Re: GDLK Operations
There is speculation that the coke is for Ross Labs in Sturgis which apparently still uses coal to fire their boilers

Re: GDLK Operations
Can anybody confirm why 4009 was spotted going down the Marion branch last week? Is Watco reshuffling power?
Re: GDLK Operations
All WSCO power except for a dead 7090 is out of GRR. The two GP-35s are doing
switching and transfer work.

Re: GDLK Operations

Right, I forgot that the tracks there are industry and not actually thenyarf.Waddy wrote:To be used again.NSSD70ACe wrote:Worked on? For expansion?Waddy wrote:North yard (mosel) is being worked on
What is the exact location of the old yard? I know the general area and from Google maps I can see what used to maybe be a yard, but I’m not sure. Is it the section that looks like a bunch of concrete with the stub track that ends right at Mosel?

Re: GDLK Operations
This was North Yard. It hailed from the LSMS days and in modern times it's purpose was serving the paper industry on Kalamazoo's north side. Switching, storage in transit and that sort of thing. https://www.google.com/maps/place/42%C2 ... 85.5762983
Not to be confused with the PRR's Mosel Yard. Prior to Penn Central this was the PRR's yard in Kalamazoo. After the Penn Central merger there was a brief period of piggy back service from Mosel. Then it became a place to store cars when traffic slowed and eventually was pulled up.

Re: GDLK Operations
Saturday at Park it was reported that 5 Elk units and 1 NS were sitting there. 2204,4189,4190,4125 4225 and a 6 axle NS waiting to go north. 302s power was borrowed for a grain extra so 303 went to Elkhart to pick up 302s left over power plus the NS unit enroute to Jackson. No wonder just the 4 axle units were being used in Grand Rapids.

Re: GDLK Operations
So I have no idea how true or not true this is, but I'm hearing that NS will be running unit trains to and from the new ethanol plant in Albion. Hearing they would come out of Elkhart with a GDLK crew, and an NS crew would jump on in Kalamazoo and take them east. Anyone else heard this?
