Track Work on CSX west end

Unread post by dave989 »

I know CSX is doing track work south of Holland but I
am not sure where? My engineer pals tell me somewhere
around Saugatuck hill but can someone who knows for
sure please elaborate.

Yup, beginning at the siding at Saugatuck and extending at least to Fennville. Packs of ties have been laid out and the ties to be replaced have been marked.

Looks as if some track work is going to take place in Wyoming Yard.
New ties are sitting on #6 even and I suspect the even leads are going
to get new ties and surfaced. They have been fixing switches in there
the past few weeks. I will be looking to see if MOW equipment starts
showing up in Wyoming or the G.R. area soon.

Last week, they had the M-43 crossing in Bangor partially closed, working on it.
I tried to snap a photo in my rear view mirror.

Haha I just posted about that xing that in chat room a few mins ago.

It looks like they are wiring up a new crossing signal system. There are new bases in the ground and a new control box. The new cantilever and gates are sitting near the Division Street xing. I'll post some pics soon.

Also, it looks like a crossing system is going in at 68th St? In Hartford area? Currently just cross bucks.

The ballast train with #44 and #198 was split in half with one half working
in Wyoming yard and the other half parked at Lamar siding west of the yard.
The MOW crew was at the west end of the yard taking a break around 18:30.
Looks like they will be at it for awhile this week.

You must mean either #1 or #2 track, or the reefer, as there is no "siding" west of Lamar. (the reefer has an electric-lock for
the hand-thrown switch near the west-bound signal at Ivanrest)

Man, it's good to know that 2 & 16 tracks will finally get done! Both of those are so rough taking a train into.......

When I drove over the BUS-196 ramp yesterday after work, the ballast cars and the empty track equipment cars were parked in the reefer track. Nice to see some work being done up this way.

Took my lunch hour around 14:00 to see how they were progressing at Wyoming yard. The track gang was stretched the entire length of the yard. J & H was providing a fuel truck at the west end for some of the
CSX heavy trucks. D707 arrived from Lansing with Gevo #856 leading
a lengthy train. The yard is getting cramped with the even leads out of service.
Sorry guy's, I did not know they called it the refer track at Lamar. The loaded
ballast cars were still there as of 15:00.

After watching Q326 meet Q327 at Lamar around 09:30, I stopped at the west
end of Wyoming yard and asked a member of the MOW crew where they were
headed after they were done here and he said Holland and points south from there.
As of 14:00 they were still hacking away at Wyoming Yard.

Most of the MOW crew has left. Still working on switches and a couple
of rough patches at Wyoming yard. Looking forward to future post next
week from MOW action in the Holland area.

Ballast train is in the siding at Saugatuck. The MOW convoy is tied up on the Ottawa Beach branch, they will do that and the Hamilton Branch Monday and or Tuesday.

As of last night, a string of ballast hoppers was sitting in Benton Harbor on the northern of the two mains. FRED on the end, but no power with it.

Had a boo boo at the east end of Wyoming Yard today. I got there at
14:30 and the cars had been re-railed but #6 even had rail torn out past
the switch about 30 yards and crews were working to repair the switch.
I don't know the cause but some of the track work done last week was undone. Ouch!

The local MOW crew has finally completed the repairs at Wyoming yard following
last weeks derailment at the east end of the yard.
