Are we gonna do a Durand in the Spring?

Unread post by CAT345C »

Anybody going to do a Durand gathering in April or May? I was hoping to do something between the 6th and 13th of April, so I could do a 24 hour thing. I hope I'm not stomping on somebodies duty of picking a date.

I don't think anyone's really mentioned having a get-together yet so far. I'd definitely be interested in attending as well, just don't exactly have any idea what's happening yet that far off in the future...

Is it aloud to pitch a small tent, cause my truck does not have the conventual back seat to sleep in, anyways, the first weekend around the 6th, is Easter, so I think the 13th Firday, 14th Sat, 15th Sunday would be good dates, in the past it was on April 30th, ither way I plan on making a trip during that week.

I think the Durand get togethers are usually aimed for the end of April or the first half of May. Simply because the weather is better then and more people can be flexible with schedules. Like Charles, I'm focusing on my exams next week, and haven't given much thought to anything happening beyond about January 8. I would like to attend the Spring Durand meet if we have one, but I'll have to see whats up with end of school/work/and internship stuff then.

Durand Meet in the Spring

Unread post by David Lang »

Yes, we will have a Durand Meet in the Spring. I have been organizing these events for 5 years now and usually as the time comes closer, a few months before, I get on railoradfan.com and michiganrailroads.com and begin to plan what date is the best for everyone. Usually our meet in the Spring is in May because April is usually a bit too cool. Look for my posts probably sometime in February/March. Thanks for asking!!!!

We could try for three this year...do a 'polar bear' meet at the end of January or early February

Any takers?

On a serious note, as opposed to the traditional cookout, there could be a some sort of chili cookoff contest or something for anyone interested...

A polar bear meet would be nice since I wont be around to attend the spring meet. What ya think Mr Lang..Late Jan, early Feb for those of us not worried about losing a finget to frostbite? There have gotta be a few of us that will brave all weather to watch a few trains..right??

I have taken a propane heater to Durand twice in the past. Three years ago I shocked the hell out of a Durand policeman when I was there at 3 am on a mid February morning with the temperature near 15.

Midnight visitors to Durand were not uncommon. Back when the most of the action was around 2am-5am and there would be people there to watch. Their numbers are probably down now that most of the action takes place closer to sunrise and later.

I'd consider a polar bear gathering in Jan or Feb.

I'm defientely in for the spring gathering.

If I'm available whatever day gets picked, I'll be there for a polar bear meet.

I'm a 60/30 shot of being in on a polar bear meet.
