Railroads around Nashville & Mt Vernon, Il

Unread post by Fred »

Will be down that way next month and was wondering what traffic was like around those areas. In Nashville is the ex L&N line still active and what about the former MP line?
Appreciate any and all info & suggestions
Thanks,

Check out the Nashville and Eastern. I think they still operate some older GE's.

The Evansville and Western goes through Nashville, though I'm not really certain how much traffic you can expect to see or what time of the day it might run. My guess would be 2-4 trains total on any given day.

Nearby Centralia has each of CN, NS, and BNSF running through there, with the CN line hosting 6 daily Amtrak.

Mount Vernon has a really interesting junction between the UP, EVWR, and NS.

Here is the Illinois DOT rail map.
