CSX Barr Yard

Unread post by JoJames »

Sounds like the FRA showed up this week and made there presence known with just about closing the yard down. Stanley Yard in Toledo has received some of the overflow that there was no room for.

FRA was in Avon walking with car inspectors earlier this week. Shopped a few cars here and there. Still maintained normal operations.

As an aside, i have been curious to know how Barr Yard is laid out. Seems like it could have set up either as an Arrival-Classification-Departure (with a Locals Yard too) or as North+Westbound Arrival/Departure-North+West Classification-South+Eastbound Classification-South+East Arrival/Departure.

That is how Barr is run from what you described. Yards A thru F from north to south. A is a receiving yard for "WB" freight. F is the "EB" freight receiving yard. B, C, E are the classification yards. A lot of trains will leave out of E or F yard after doubling up.

Not sure that I understand why Barr would be shut down by the FRA. The EPA maybe....unless they declared all the tracks OOS. I'm confused.

Lots of cars had fra defects along with some yard tracks and there was not much room left for switching.

Yup, completely shut down, abandoned, fin-ito. They're moving the bulldozers in on Tuesday to start turning it into a field.

Not so soon. Neighbors are fighting the rail trail.

Yep, CSX and BNSF merged, so they're using the BNSF yards. Expect UP and NS to merge soon.

No they did not merge, and no we won't expect UP and NS to merge.

Bama,

The FRA did show up at Barr and brought yard operations to almost a standstill after they were done bad-ordering equipment. Said equipment is now either fixed or being fixed. Barr Yard is not (and really could not) going anywhere.

Didn't they do this in Wyoming awhile back....bad ordered everything and stopped operations for a day or two?
