Driving by the crossing at 9th street and College Ave (on the Marion branch in Goshen) I saw some work being done. There is a brand new shack there. There is also what looks like a new signal tower laying on the ground looking like it's about to be installed. I'm guessing maybe they are dividing that section in half with a new CP??? Or maybe adding it to CP3 or CP412????

It is too close to CP 3 to be creating a new CP. The new shack is probably for the new crossing signals. College Ave is getting overhead signals (there should be one new signal on the ground on each side of College Ave). I first saw the new signals on the ground a week or so ago.

A long time ago there was a division point for the signalling a few blocks north of College Ave. The ATSC code for 412 would show the approach block occupied for a south bound train only until it passed that point. A north bound train showed occupancy as soon as it passed CP 3. There was a lot of odd coding at CP 3 and the signals south along the branch. The occupancy bits were set different depending on which way the train was headed. All that went away with the big resignalling a couple of years ago.

There would be no benefit to have a CP between CP 412 and CP 3.

The construction crew was out Thursday and set the new crossing signal wiring cabinet on the south east corner of the crossing (old cabinet is behind and to the right of the new).

Halfway there. New EB traffic signal is in place. New WB signal remains on the ground (off camera to the left).

Project Complete Here is the view from the east. The overhead certainly improves the visibility of the crossing.
