CSX has apparently removed the crossovers and switch to the NS at Pine Jct. CSX traffic to Barr now must go via the UP at Dolton.

Interesting. I occasionally would see that in use in conjunction with the one at Curtis yard. It is showing OOS on ATCS.

Did CSX add anything at Pine Jct? I expect a connection to the old Fort Wayne Secondary to be added at some point (to allow trains from Tollston to the Barr Subdivision).

there were double crossovers there too, now using the crossovers at Cline Ave. Will have to look for new intermediate signals replacing the Pine interlocking signals

Wow, crazy. IIRC Q368 and Q369 (I think) used it historically to get to and from the BRC via the NS. We would occasionally use it on N800/801 and E800/E801 to get around congestion on the NS between 497 and 501.

The crossovers at pine have be removed but the connection track to cp501 is still in use.

Is the 501 connection a way for CSX to get to the BRC? I never heard heard why CSX was using the NS west of Pine...

Yes, it is one of the ways CSX uses to get to the Belt.

Yes, it is one of the ways CSX uses to get to the Belt.

What’s the history of that route option? Seems odd that CSX would be able to go that way.

Good to see. Some time when life calms down I want to get over that way to railfan. It has been more than 10 weeks since my last railfan trip of more than 20 miles. (I feel like I'm reporting in AA - except not railfanning isn't a good thing.)

There is a lot of track, crossovers and connections in that area.

The Pine to 501 connection was part of the original passenger route into the City.

It’s a mess to try an explain, but the B&O crossed over the NYC to go over the canal at hick on its own bridge, it then crossed the river next to the PRR and NYC only to dive under both and connect to the Rock to get back to the BOCT.

If it sounds whacked, it is because it was, the B&O passenger route into the city was the most messed up arrangement ever.

CSX still has customers on the route between Hick and the river. They use the NS between 501 and 503 now instead of the old B&O bridge. It’s called the Lake Subdivison.

Amtrak also used the connection to get on the CSX route until 2005.

Yup you’re right I got ahead of myself. Q326 was spotted using the 497/Curtis connection not 501.

Not sure what it is, but ATCS is showing a WB train entering NS at CP 501 from CSX passing WB past CP 503.
The train is long enough that it is occupying track on the east side of the canal in CP 503 and the lead from Pine Jct.
Currently cleared to stop at CP 509 on Track 2.

EDIT 7:10pm ET
Train from Pine Jct now cleared to leave NS at CP 509 headed for BRC.
