Kingsbury Industrial Park

Unread post by Super Chief »

Went to Stillwell today with GTW and saw the South Shore cross the CN Owls diamond at Stillwell. They have the new power derails installed. The power today was 2001 & 2007. They proceeded to the former Kingsbury Ordanace property with gondolas and coil cars. They typically get there M-W-F between noon and 4. JBC rail services had 4125, 3517, 1229 and 316 as plant switchers. What a nice collection of interesting power. Seems a lot of the old buildings had companies occupied in them and the South Shore made the run around the entire complex to deliver their train to each customer.

The article in Trains Mag about South Shore mentioned this industrial park. Seems like it would be cool to railfan.

Yes Don very interesting, underground bunkers scattered thru the state park next to it and really cool brick buildings all in a row, inert materials buildings and tracks to every one of the buildings. There's a map in the office showing how 4 railroads had 4 different gates to enter the complex from 4 directions off their mainlines. Must have been a busy place during the war and there's 5 water towers still standing above the property. Google it and enjoy the visit.
