Unread post by jrgerber »

What does the Elkhart and Western have as customers? Power?

Does the KT have any customers besides Kraft?

What is the power and customers for the Argo segment?

Thanks.

They service a cement terminal and one other customer IIRC. They also have quite a few sidings still in place but unused at this time.

At one time a few years ago, the EWRR crew also ran the Michigan Southern out of White Pigeon. I think they were on MSO M-W-F and EWRR Tu-Thurs. Not sure if this is still the case.

Elkhart and Western's Elkhart DIv. uses PREX 911 (ex-MILW GP9) and 1000 (ex-IC GP10) for power. Crews come from MSO/White Pigeon or E&W/Argos depending on who's available. Right now MSO crews normally run the KT and Argos crew runs Elkhart; but they are all qualified to run on all 4 railroads. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to catch E&W Elkhart running.

I think KT only has Kraft; plus car storage. They use PREX 16 (ex-LUN SW8).

Elkhart and Western's Argos Div. uses PREX 1600 (ex-CSX GP16) and 2045 (ex-BNSF GP20) for power.
Apparently I work on GEs now...

Who are the customers on the Argos Div?

Wasn't this a Indiana HI-Rail operation at one time?

Does the Argos division do any interchange with the South Shore, or is the stretch of line between the two still considered embargoed?

No interchange. The track is impassable (the crossing at SR 104 is paved over - rails removed and one of the crossing lights is missing).

I see on the Indiana Railroads thread Plymouth has lost two rail served customers recenty. Town is scrambling to get new industries in them. Pioneer switched them both at one time.

Do you know who the customers were? Looking at Google Earth there is/was a plastics plant and another who received covered hoppers and tank cars. There is a 3rd spur a little north of the first two but no rail cars on it.

It was announced February 1st. that DelMonte is closing Thursday, 100 jobs affected, the other was Bay Valley. WSBT reported it. City officials are trying to find new businesses to help offset the loss.

Yes are looking bleak but there actually is new business on the horizon. Viking Paper expanded in Plymouth Indiana last year and that included a rail spur to the plant, but I have no idea if they are getting rail shipments right now.

Word out on the street is that the CO AG plant in Argos Indiana also expanded last year and is seeing shipments of liquid fertilizer on a weekly basis. Also a scrap dealer opened to rail business this past year in Rochester Indiana.
