Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
I have noticed that the K112 occupied bit is LOW when a route is cleared over the NS bridge until after the train clears the interlocking (not just when a train is in the interlocking or occupying the bridge). Unoccupied is indicated only when the NS portion of the interlocking is completely clear (no trains no routes).
Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
One more wrinkle on the J bridge. When they put it down to be used as a maintainer road bridge. Sometimes the Bridge Tender wont bother to put the EJ&E bridge wedges in. So you will see K144 and K143 come up, but not K141

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
Is K141 the wedges or the lock? I've interpreted it as K144 "bridge down", K143 "wedges out", K141 "locked".LakeATCS wrote:One more wrinkle on the J bridge. Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
The "LOCK" on a bridge isn't so much something you turn on and off.
Ir's more of a fact that a set of conditions have been met, so that the bridge is considered "locked" down and ready to run trains over.
All three bits normally go UP within seconds of each other. They all three may be "lock conditions"

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
Well now this is interesting. They must be working on the HICK NYC Westbound bridge today. 11am eastern.
K136,K137,K138 are up, and they are running trains over #2.
But on #1 only the K113 is up. The OS is shunting around the bridge on #1. Blue OOS is up to the west and east on #1
So I guess that tells us which set of bits goes with which track.

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
It was nice of NS to help us figure out which track the bits refer to.
On my display I use K114, K138 and K144 as "bridge up" ... which made my layout look weird when two track on the same bridge showed conflicting indications. I also have a display program (home written, not Track Builder) so I can show occupancy within an interlocking without a route being cleared first. The "AT" occupancy was on most of the day while the work was being done.
I assume NS was doing the other half of the switch installation that we saw last weekend. Replacing the crossover(s) between track 1 and track 2?

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
All the Amtraks today (Sat. the 26th) are losing time between Chicago and Hammond. Is there some M/W going on that is resulting in single track?
Thanks!

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
I dont see anything overtly wrong on my ATCS display. No blue boards. Everything is fluid, nothing stopped. All trains have at least 3 signals lined ahead of them
Might have to replay the log. Might have been a butt ton of stuff parked for the holiday trying to get it all going again.

Well things seem to be rumbling to life. Saw two test addresses last month. Both are on CH5 in range of the Laporte receiver.
5/25 40 Bit 75508800120202 Seems to be a two switch interlocking.
5/17 40 bit 75508800240202 Only see one switch, but that doesn't mean anything.
Now the first one is probably the new CP 452 Hudson Lake machine. As 012 would put it between 462 and 448.

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
I need to take a drive over there. The last time I went there didn't see any real progress (March 19th ... the cabinet was dropped off next to the fiber building but was not placed level - no other equipment such as signals, turnouts or towers were present). It has been nearly three months.LakeATCS wrote:Well things seem to be rumbling to life. Saw two test addresses last month. Both are on CH5 in range of the Laporte receiver.

Road Trip!
It appears that the intermediates in both directions are on the new signals ... bottom head bagged.Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
I can't tell from the photos if the crossovers are installed yet.

They are not. There is nothing between the tracks other than ballast.tttodisp wrote:I can't tell from the photos if the crossovers are installed yet.
Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
Would someone have the location of the new CP 452. I would like to check that out along with a late day stop at Otis Hill.
Thanks

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
The two photos taken above were taken at N 700 E (aka Emery Rd) and N 600 E. 453 is about 1400ft west of N 700 E and 5000ft east of N 600 E, with the tracks running at an angle to the road grid. Off road parking is available at both locations without driving past a No Trespassing sign.GTW wrote:Would someone have the location of the new CP 452. Approach signals are visible from County Line Rd and E 700 N near Hudson Lake (451_W) and N 450 E/Prairie St in Rolling Prairie. (Trees make it difficult to see the eastbound approach from Wiley Rd.)
The existing intermediates are labeled 4532W/4531W and 4532E/4531E. The 454 milepost is just west of the new CP location.
(The existing intermediates look really small with the modern signals installed. Mostly due to the camera lens shortening the distance.)

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
BTW: New intermediate signals are in service at 460. 458. 455 and 451 (all intermediates between CP 462 and CP 448 except 453 which will become the CP).
The 4601W/4602W signals are two headed intermediates. Which is strange considering the next signal is non-diverging, but there are other places (such as 4071W/4072W) where a second head is on an intermediate so approach medium or approach limited can be displayed even though the next signal does not have crossovers.
As noted above, the second head on 4551E, 4552E, 4511W and 4512W are bagged pending activation of CP 453.

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
Someone is playing with "75501590120202" today (for the past few hours).
Over the past few minutes they have been clearing signals at CP 462 and CP 448 toward CP 453.
[Edit: I copied the MCP from CP 479 as a basis for CP 453. Based on that and what I have seen, it appears 1NW is a RH crossover west of 2NW (a LH crossover). AEA and BEA have been tested.]

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
CP 453 appears to be live (it's on the DS screen per a source) and there is an EB lined 1 to 2 at the present time.
When did they get the switches installed?

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
They must have installed them today.
I watched the Capital Limited go through 1 to 2 EB but too dark to see switches. I was able to field verify what is being seen on ATCS. AEA and BEA go active for a train between 458 and 453 on the respective track.
1EA and 2EA go active for a train between 455 and 453 on the respective track.
1WA and 2WA go active for a train between 453 and 451 on the respective track.
At CP 462 1WA and 2WA have been cut back to 458 (24 hours ago they would go active for a train between 462 and 453, now they go active for a train between 462 and 458).
At CP 448 1EA and 2EA have been cut back to 451 (24 hours ago they would go active for a train between 455 and 448, now they go active for a train between 451 and 448).
(Yes, there was an overlap between 455 and 453.)
Approach Medium was displayed for Amtrak 30 Capital Limited at 455 in advance of Medium Clear at 453,
Add: K51 1RLK, K52 2RLK ... each goes active right before a track 1 or track 2 signal is cleared (respectively) and goes inactive when the signal drops.

Re: NW Indiana PTC project.
Yeah the K51 and K52 are a new thing NS has started doing. Not sure what purpose they serve. Just an extra bit that comes up whenever ether bit from a signal pair comes up.
Otherwise looks good. Literally you could copy CP 479 except for the new K51 and K52
