Also that looks like a spike pulled on the former #2 main under the signal bridge

Effective 12:01 p.m., Monday, 10-23-17,
Retire the existing Westward 2WD signal located at CP 421 at MP KH 0.2

A new Westward 2WD Home Signal located to the right of the Kalamazoo Branch Track on a High signal mast 45 feet east of the old signal at MP KH 0.2.

All medium aspects and restricting and stop.

So what prevented them from doing this during the initial cutover? Seems like wasted effort for the first location.

I believe Track 1 was in the way. The location where I saw the digging in September was right at the diamond. A mast there probably would have been hit by trains.

An 8 day signal ... very short life.

In the timetable Dearborn Division Timetable No.1 effective August 4, 2008 are being made.
REMOVE the 30 mph limit off the SS between CP 415 and CP 421 (that is what it says)
Remove the 20 MPH at 421 on main 1 and 2.

Add the following.
30mph ALL trains (Pax TV and FRT), All tracks MP 421.1 to 421.9. Account curve and CP 421.
I thought that curve was 20 MPH.

So with the "30 MPH" removed what speed remains? The same as the other mains?

(August 4, 2008 ... some year NS will need to do a Timetable No. 2.)

Basically they removed the old limits at through the spring switch at 415 and old curve at 421 and then added a new one at 421 on account of the new curvature.

That isn't the question (although it is interesting to see NS reference to a CP that was removed years ago, and use a historic name for Main 3).

The question is "what is the MAS for Main 3?"

I recall that there was a notice when the "Signaled Siding" became Main 3 setting a speed limit, but I cannot recall what it was (45 MPH?).

Has there been a notice converting the Coach Track to Main 3 and setting speeds?
(The notice for CP 421 refers to the track as Main 3.)

Where does the yard start and end? I always thought that the CTC began and ended for the yard at CP 421. In which case except for No. 1 & 2, they'd be governed by yard rules.

Yes another part of the posting designated 421 to 423 coach track as Main 3.

I don't like to simply cut and paste the notice. Simply for the fact that if NS knows there is a leak, they will send out notices with a certain spelling errors or worded a certain way to selected parts of the mailing list to narrow down who is the leak.

By retyping it in my own words, I prevent NS from closing the leak. Just part of the steam cleaning and or laundering practice in this digital age.

Maybe I miss things. But it is better for us all.

Its pretty much 30 on the 421 curve, Everywhere else posted mainline speeds with a 45 mph MAS on 3.

There are "End Automatic Block" signs just east of Oakland Ave (at 12th St). That is where the signaled track ends.

Correction of my earlier post: The base I saw was junk and the digging was too far east. The new signal location for the Kalamazoo Branch is under where Track 2 once ran.

Main three max speed between 412 and 423 is 30 mph

Speeds from the ancient scroll (or current timetable before amendments):
CP 342 Bryan-CD 417.0 - 79 MPH Passenger, 60 TV, 50 Freight
(Except CP 358 Butler - 60 MPH Passenger, 40 TV/Freight)

CD 417.0-CP 421 - 70 MPH Passenger, 60 TV, 50 Freight [CP 417 is now located at CD 417.0]
CP 421 - 20 MPH [This restriction now removed and replaced by the 30 MPH restriction]
CP 421-CD 422.7 - 60 MPH Passenger, TV/Freight (422.7 is just west of Oakland Ave in Elkhart)
CD 422.7-CD 432.0 - 79 MPH Passenger, 50 TV/Freight
CD 432.0-CD 436.3 - 70 MPH Passenger, 60 TV, 50 Freight (423.0 to 436.3 is Mishawaka and South Bend)
CD 436.3-CD 436.9 - 50 MPH Passenger, 50 TV/Freight (436.3 to 436.9 is downtown South Bend - ending at CP 437)
CD 436.9-CD 439.4 - 70 MPH Passenger, 60 TV, 50 Freight (439.4 is just west of Grandview in South Bend)
CD 439.4-CP 462 LaPorte - 79 MPH Passenger, 60 TV, 50 Freight
* Passenger speed change mileposts shown. Freight speed change marks vary slightly in South Bend.

Ye olde "Signaled Siding" (CP 415-CP421) was on the books for 30 Passenger, 30 TV/Freight,
(The CP 435-CP 437 South Bend and CP 463-CP 466 LaPorte siding was also listed for 30 MPH.)

I believe "TV" includes the intermodal box and trailers on a train.

30 MPH for CP 412-CP 423 fits in nicely for the other "siding" speeds (even if called Main 3).

I wonder if they are planning on salvaging the rail in lengths instead of cutting it into panels to be taken away?

It could be used to build the new lead to the museum.
There are also a lot of cut panels present which would require more drilling and bolting to make jointed rail.

A few quick Sunday observations:
1) The old frogs remain on Track 1 and Track 3 in the curve.
2) NS routed an eastbound BNSF coal train from 2 to 3 at CP 423 (using the new crossover). It sat at CP 421 for a while then was cleared through CP 421 from Track 3 to Track 2. Track 2 at CP 417 was stop when the BNSF train started through CP 421 and the crew called "Medium Approach Medium" as the signal. (Next signal would have been the Approach at 4192E.)
3) There was a yard job so long (how long was it?) ... it was cleared through CP 421 (South Freight to 3). The slug passed under the eastbound signal bridge before the west end cleared and then the train shoved back into the yard.

It sure was a lot quieter than it was last Sunday. :D
(Less people, zero NS track/signal, trains spread out over the day.)

As of now the new WB GDLK home signal has been moved 30 foot to the east, but still on west side of main street.

Does that mean the machine used to press in the spring retainers (requiring a sideways press) rather than spikes?

The sun finally came out today ... so I stopped by and noticed that the old RH 1-2 switch west of Prairie St has been removed from the curve. I believe the LH switch was also removed. The partial remains of the switch on track 3 has not yet been removed.
