CP Millers (491) tribute.
CP Millers (491) tribute.
I am talking about the rather oddball and unique Wabco 601 known as CP 491 or formerly CP Millers.
If you have ever watched this machine's bit patterns on the ATCS, you will note it's a little odd compared to the other CTC interlockings around it.
There are no local OOS bits. The office machine must perform that function. There is no provision for restricting signals for following trains. 491 will not line a green until at least one physical block is clear.
Under Conrail, most of the CTC machines in Northeast Indiana were the ubiquitous GE Series Six machines. There were a smattering of GRS 4000s and of course the PRR US&S stuff as well.
But the Porter install was unique in that NYC installed some strange Wabco 601 machines. Yes I said porter install. When first installed. NYC upgraded PO tower with Wabco 601 equipment. There were three interlockings. 482 PO, 482 West PO, and 491 Millers. (At this time there was no 497, no 487, and no 485)
During the CR years. Porter of course got the upgrades, but Millers kept it's odd NYC era Wabco 601 machine.
The only change I can find is sometime during the 90s, the bracket masts with GRS G signals were swapped for some Michigan Central style searchlights. Conrail was ever crazy about reusing all manner of signal items like this.
So tonight, one of the last vestiges of the NYC goes away. The strange Wabco 601.

Also falling tonight are the 489 intermediate signals to the east.
Thanks for the details of CP Millers.

They're gone. The only thing left are the distant signal signs moved to 488justalurker66 wrote:Also falling tonight are the 489 intermediate signals to the east.

And they couldn't fleet trains through thereLakeATCS wrote: If you have ever watched this machine's bit patterns on the ATCS, you will note it's a little odd compared to the other CTC interlockings around it.
