South Shore Freight, east end

Unread post by GP30M4216 »

I was in Michigan City for the first time in several years and captured a couple videos on the street running:

Light engine move westbound.

Train 503 rolls eastbound down 10th Street. Love the echoing horn and metronome bell.

It was interesting to drive around the Carroll Avenue diamond area and see all the new signals and cantenary up and in service. This brought up some questions:

What freight customers exist on the South Shore mainline east of Carroll diamond?

What customers still exist on the Kingsbury branch, and when do CSS Freight trains head down the branch?

In addition to the orange GP38-2s and two blue GMTX GP38-2s, I thought I saw several Geeps painted for Iowa Interstate around the CSS Freight Shops? Is CSS leasing more power, doing contract work, or something else?

Thanks for any help!

The Iowa Interstate units you saw are SD38-2s that IAIS unloaded after they got their last order of Gevos. Anacostia Pacific picked up 4 of them and they have been bouncing around between South Shore and Louisville & Indiana (both AP owned).

I believe the CSS freight heads down to Kingsbury on Tue. and Thurs.
