Police say Prater was hit by a westbound CSX freight train headed to Chicago.

For a story that is barely longer than a headline the answer they are looking for is not "blunt force trauma" but why this person was in the way of a train. The crossing has lights and gates and it does not appear that the teen was walking the tracks.

CSX extends its sympathies to all involved in this morning’s tragic accident in Syracuse. Around 7:10 a.m. EST, a CSX train struck a pedestrian on the railroad tracks at Warner Road. The train was traveling from Kearny, NJ to Chicago, had two locomotives and 49 rail cars carrying mixed freight. Train traffic through the area was suspended while local law enforcement completed their investigation. Normal operations are expected to resume later this afternoon.

Sadly, rail-related accidents like this one are all too common. About every three hours somewhere in the U.S., a person or a vehicle is struck by a train.

Many trespassers get killed because they are walking the tracks ... often with earbuds or otherwise distracted. In this particular case the incident has been reported to have occurred at a crossing ... with lights and gates. Not a place where a train should be unnoticed.

If you have any real information on the incident please provide it. It is easy to insult the media and make snarky comments. How about providing the information that was missing from the news reports?

Ummm, that's the job of the Syracuse media. The media today is lazy. They just give you the sensational photos and a headline.
