CSX files Abandonment for Monon to Monticello line segment

Of interest for some on here, is the calculations done to determine the non viability of the line segment. (Page 4, 12 & pages 15 & 16)

Thanks for posting.
I thought this part of the line was already gone. If the abandonment is approved, I'll have to visit that part of the line before it's all gone.

With only seven car loads last year it might as well be gone.

A plastic automotive supplier in Monticello Indiana is expanding and there appears to be a spur into this place...

Are they going to keep in mind that this new plastics customer in Monticello might use rail...or is it too late?

Correcting the link:
http://www.plasticsnews.com/article/201 ... ding-plant
Not a new company ... just a factory doubling their production capacity.
Apparently they (Adkev Inc.) are not using CSX. An exhibit in the petition states:

There were seven carloads in 2013.In preparation for filing this Petition for Exemption, I have reviewed the carloads handled over the line for the last 4 years ending October 2013. All of these carloads were for one shipper, Monticello Farm Services, Inc., located at 1415 N 6th Street, Monticello, IN 47960.

Sounds like the nine mile track to Monticello is going to meet its fate soon, if it hasn't already.

There is no PDF attached to the notice, but Monticello Farm Service, Inc. has filed a Protest/Opposition Statement with the STB.

Re: CSX files Abandonment for Monon to Monticello line segme
I realize this is old news, but the STB did deny CSX's request to abandon the line.

And a year and a half after the fact, I finally managed to see what was left of the Monon/CSX in Monticello today. I observed one dark red GACX covered hopper on the siding itself at Monticello Farm Service and a short string of red Potash covered hoppers to the east of the switch. Possibly as many as six or seven cars altogether and the rails between Monon and Monticello were far less rusty than I would have expected, leading me to believe those cars were probably dropped as recently as yesterday or even early this morning.
