Actually, there is two plants in Lafayette. I think that is the "South" plant referenced in the news release (on the former NKP), while the other plant is off US 52 at "East Yard" on the Wabash (Sagamore plant). NS switches the plants, but some traffic is interchanged to CSX in the "D Yard" for customers on CSX.

Practice Safe CSX

They used to have a large operation in St. Clair Shores, MI (no rail service). Most of it was moved to Mexico. However, I noticed small segments have been coming back to the US. I'd be surprised if they use rail service but with a spur there we can always hope :)

Yes.

From the article you linked:
The Cleveland-Europe Express continues to prove to be a viable option for shippers moving their goods from the Midwest to markets around the world," said David S. Gutheil, Vice President of Maritime & Logistics at the Port of Cleveland. "In October, we moved cargo from various points in the Midwest to Belgium, Finland, Germany, Russia, Poland, and the Netherlands, among other destinations, and those shipments included containerized cargo and heavy machinery."
Until they build a freight train line across the ocean shipping will be needed.

They have a fertilizer terminal in Coldwater that gets regular rail service from INE. I think they may also operate a grain elevator in Fremont, IN on the INE. Not to sure about the Fremont, IN, location though.
