WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP OF IL. AND IN., YOU CAN SEE WHY EMPLOYERS ARE LEAVING THE LAND OF LINCOLN.
I BELIEVE IL. LEADS THE NATIONS WITH FORMER GOVS IN JAIL.

It may create jobs but the shops at Homewood will be moved to Kirk yard and that's at least 200 people right there that will be moved.

Thats what I suspected. The media is making it seem like it is creating more jobs than there actually is.GLC 392 wrote:It may create jobs but the shops at Homewood will be moved to Kirk yard and that's at least 200 people right there that will be moved.

It is an odd location for a rail yard. The CN mains are several miles south and trains have to do a wide swing (soon to be a wider swing as the track is relocated) around the Gary Airport to enter the yard - then leave on the same tracks that they came in on (unless they interchange with NS or CSX).
I'm more used to classification yards with an in and an out on the same line headed in opposite directions.

Stanley Yard is set up like this, everything comes in from the north and leaves out the north. The nice thing about that is, you don't have to adjust your build plan based upon which way the train leaves. You just build everything to leave out the same end. No shoves to spot a train at the opposite end from your normal switching to get it in position to leave out that end.justalurker66 wrote:It is an odd location for a rail yard. Granted, Stanley is right at the mainlines, whereas Kirk is a bit of a poke from the former GTW. With the push for eliminating switching inside Chicago, Kirk should fill that roll well. Also, as far as locomotive shops, why have 2 shops only 30 miles (or so) apart, when you can consolidate your resources into one place, and not have to have duplicate facilities.
Practice Safe CSX

9.2 miles with grade crossings from Kirk to Griffith ... slightly longer after the planned realignment for the airport. But it is double tracked.CSX_CO wrote:Granted, Stanley is right at the mainlines, whereas Kirk is a bit of a poke from the former GTW.
