Re: V771 Ablaze
Whatever it is, it's an eastbound UP coal train. The trailing engine, 6471, is the only one burning, and the fire department is trying to put out the flames with foam. The lead engine is unidentifiable due to heavy smoke.Y@ wrote:Last I knew V771 was dead and hadn't been run in months.

Re: V771 Ablaze
Its amazing how UP manages to time their engine failures for when they just onto CSX. I've had several trains off the UP that the motors die about 30 minutes after departing. Its uncanny!

Dustin (Straywolf716) is on scene letting me know what's happening. Lead engine is 5930, as Tops said.

There is also a V740 coming according to someone who likes cats, CNAND9 02 UP 6736/UP 6726/UP 7156 with 120 more loads for Dunkirk but he is still not quite to Clinton, IA yet.

Re: V771 Ablaze
The 6471 is now set out at Milford. Officials said they need to let the engine cool down before they take it anywhere else. A fire unit is by the engine to make sure the engine doesn't flare up again.

Re: V771 Ablaze
The engine is broken. They will send it back to UP and say "we didn't do it!" Could be any number of things. Blown piston, blown turbo, fuel leak, etc. I doubt anyone there will have an answer. Probably not until it gets back to UP and gets inspected. Even then, I may not be able to see what the problem actually was. I'll be able to see what they did to it, but not what was wrong with it, typically.

I heard CSX is calling you in to inspect the unit because you are the master of all things UP.Mr. Tops wrote:The engine is broken. They will send it back to UP and say "we didn't do it!" Re: V771 Ablaze
If they called me in to inspect it, I would say "Oh yeah!....looks like it burned! Holy Amish potato salad I just stepped in horse poo! But yeah, the engine must be broken. Hey look! a Wabonnet on Q368! Yeah, just send it back to us. It will have to be fixed. I need to go get a shot of Q368. See ya!"
