Somewhere between Suman and Willow Creek near Portage, IN from what I've heard - sounds like Q109 and possibly others to detour on NS.

Hopefully it's west of the interlocking at Willow Creek. Trains could get on the Porter Branch there and then onto the IHB and get back on CSX at Cal Park and vice versa.

I would say to listen to the NW Indiana feed, but appears it's down: http://www.railroadradio.net/content/view/173/206/

The derailment of as many as 60 train cars shut down Old Suman Road just south of U.S. 6 in Porter County.

No one was injured in the derailment, Porter County police Lt. Chris Eckert said. A liquid was leaked from the cars, but it isn't hazardous, he said.

Police and neighbors said derailments have happened at the site before.

"This is the third time in six years in the same spot," said Leigh Ellis, who lives south of the tracks on Old Suman Road.

Eckert said it will be days before the road will be reopened.

Ok, so it happened in Suman. That's 10 miles east of Willow Creek around MP BI 226 so no chance of using the Porter Branch/IHB to detour.

That'll leave a mark! Opps...

More seriously it'll probably take in the 24-48 hour range to clean up and get one open from the looks of it (maybe quicker since it's just containers and no significant haz-mat) but regardless there'll be some detours on NS in the next 24 hours or so I'd guess.

Ya know, its unfortunate they don't have better connections onto/off the CN at Wellsboro. The 'hot' vans could come out of Bedford on their normal routing, get on the GTW at Blue Island Jct and back off at Wellsboro. Something happens on the CN between Wellsboro and Blue Island, trains get on the B&O at Wellsboro, and back on the J at E. Curtis or Blue Island Jct.

He was coming up to 292 at 0758 and a NS 071 was leaving the pad pulling west at 288. For what it's worth, Amtrak 49 left town around 0745 running fairly late. Shame it's all crappy overcast here (I just headed into the office).

Yes. Usually the pilot crew does the running, too.
