Gosport Junction

Unread post by Larry G »

Does anyone know about the status of operations around Gosport Junction these days? Pictures from the past or current?

Thanks,
Larry

Monon ROW is completely overgrown, and barely decernable during the summer months. ISRR now runs on the former PRR through Gosport. Maybe a train each way a day? That part of the line has very little business that I can tell.

During the fall/winter/spring you can see a little bit more, but there really isn't much there anymore from the Monon.

Years ago this junction had the PRR position lights and was an interesting place to view while driving in southern Indiana.

Gosport Monon also had a very interesting country depot with an inside track for unleading cars. I assume that is gone now too?

Thanks, would like to see some then and now pics if anyone has them.

I may be wrong, but I believe none of the Monon's signature 'through' freight depots remain. I believe the one at Gosport was torn down within the last 10 years or so. I made my way to track level in Gosport proper last year, and don't remember seeing it.

That is a shame that no preservation happened with that quaint depot!!! :(

Guess I was wrong about the Freight House at Gosport coming down in the last 10 years. Looks like it fell in the 1970's from what that site says? There was one that lasted pretty long, but now I can't remember which one that was. Maybe Bedford?
