This is a problem in many places. Rail cars would be getting scrapped right now if not for two reasons, the value of scrap is nil right now and the economy will eventually recover.

Those look like brand new racks. (ie: less than 5 years old)

I would love to see a few auto racks in Saginaw. It would break up the stretches of coil and coal drags sitting around here.

I can understand why people in that town hate the fact that those railcars are in their town, but I love the fact that the mayor is like we will show them by not mowing the grass. Living in small town America means that you have to a few things to complain about at city council meetings every year and this would fall under that category.

What I don’t get is why they are complaining about visibility at crossings, but if you have stored cars on either side of the crossing the likelihood of a train moving is very minimal.

There has been a cut of hoppers in Durand yard for probably close to two years. Then they had those Centerbeams forever. Flint has at least 3 tracks of coil cars stored.

Are those racks in the article the single level, commercial vehicle racks they built in July 08?
