X785 Light Engine Move

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

CSX Train X785, light engine move west bound for Bedford Park Illinois with 15 locomotives was by Deshler at 13:42 Monday afternoon with the following units in this order:

7908+4507+4563+4724+4762+4771+4718+4828+4823+4813+4576+4812+4708+4509+4742. Makes one wonder if all of the 4700s & 4800s may be sold the way CSX is dumping locomotives.

Interesting, I remember reading an old timetable from the 90's stating that the maximum number of units that could be move in one consist over the Willard sub was 9. Don't know why that number was what it was, maybe a bridge loading issue or some other such engineering concern. Apparently that is no longer the limit.

Are there any speed restrictions for towing dead engines?

No, unless it's some sort of switcher not geared for higher speeds.
