Sandusky Ohio

Unread post by northstar16 »

I was up in Sandusky on Monday stayed by Cedar Park and there was a railroad close by two tracks. Many trains run on those tracks all day and night long. Looking at the tracks you can tell as they are very shinny. The only train I saw was hauling cars of scrap and stone a good 150 axels and it was on the move. I see a train derailed in Norwalk Ohio that same day might have been the same train as it was going west bound.

How many trains run on those tracks in Sandusky every day?

W&LE was off the rails in Norwalk with the stone train. Location was west of hwy 250 in the curve. Some photos in the Norwalk Reflector online.

Though to be clear to northstar, the Norwalk derailment was definitely NOT the same train you saw in Sandusky.

The line you saw in Sandusky is Norfolk Southern's Chicago Line, which was acquired in the Conrail split and used to be part of the New York Central's Water Level Route.

The derailment was on the Class II Wheeling and Lake Erie, which is the only railroad that goes through Norwalk.
