Northern Ohio PTC Project

Unread post by justin_gram »

Since there wasn't really an Ohio thread for this, I'll start one.

In Lorain, Ohio, CP 216's new westbound signals were activated on Monday with the old NYC cantilever bagged. Sounds like the eastbound cantilever will be put up and into service on Monday and the actual cutover will take place. CP 219 is also getting cutover on Monday.

Sounds like much of the traffic has been brought to a standstill on the Chicago Line in the Vermilion area for some major PTC work that will be happening today and tomorrow. Supposedly this includes connecting the new crossover in Vermilion to the Cleveland District and Chicago Line.

Quite a few of the new signals between Oak Harbor CP 267 and and Cleveland are still waiting to be cutover after years of standing... So this may be the time it actually happens.

CP 216's new machine has been cutover, seems to be giving some odd indications on ATCS.

13:45 Edit - Looks like CP 222 is now having some issues on the monitor too. Track light seems to be stuck on in the control point. NS has began running a few trains. Thinking some changes were made here.
Lot of eastbound trains currently stopped on both tracks west of Vermilion waiting.

Not sure if this has to do with PTC upgrades "near" Toledo or if it's just some big track work, but:
To ensure Norfolk Southern maintains high standards of safety and service across our network, we will perform track work near Toledo, OH on Sunday, July 2nd. As a result of this work, the following Intermodal trains may incur transit and availability delays of up to 4 hours:

29G-30 (Norfolk to Detroit)
21A-01 (Harrisburg to St. Louis)
21T-01 (Harrisburg to Kansas City)
21Z-01 (Rutherford to Chicago 63rd)
23R-01 (Rutherford to Chicago 63rd)
20E-02 (Chicago 63rd to Croxton)
20N-02 (Chicago to Detroit)
24M-02 (Chicago 63rd to Baltimore)
205-02 (Buffalo to Chicago 47th)
206-02 (Chicago 47th to Buffalo)
As a reminder, Norfolk Southern Intermodal provides 24/7 automated information services for shipment tracing, billing verification, and storage charges (including the Last Free Day) through our Touch-Trace voice response system at 1-800-497-2919. Customers and dray carriers can also utilize accessNS for information concerning their shipments.

CP 224 will be cut in on 7/2

Right now it will be a set of crossovers. But curiously the crossovers are numbered 1 and 5. Indicating there might be a future #3 connection switch.

222 and 216 were cut in already.
