Columbus Railfanning

I might be going down to Columbus to visit two of my uncles. I want to do some railfanning as well while I'm down there. They live walking distance from West Broad Street on Binns Blvd. I know there's a railroad a little north, but which one is it, and is there any shortlines. I know the train station has been long gone, and Norfolk Southern has the Dayton District, and CSX has the Scottslawn Subdivision somewhere around there. Which line has the most trains daily? The reason why for the most is the sake of time.

That's the Camp Chase RR over by Binnis. They only work during the week and of the employees said its maybe 3 days a week they do work. Locos are kept over beside the Hollywood Casino on Georgesville Rd.

Williams Road (south end of Watkins Yard) and Cook Rd (or Weber Road) are good places to catch Norfolk Southern traffic.

I believe Camp Chase runs on Thursday. I will see them crossing 270 headed west around 9ish.

They are about the same, 5-10 trains a day or so. I would recommend going to Cooke Road on the north side of town just off I-71. CSX doesn't run much there, but the NS is busier.

The NS Sandusky District is by far the busiest in town. Around 40 a day.

Those are the regulars. I may have missed one or two. Of course, you have the coal trains, coke trains, grain trains, ethanol trains. Extra manifests.

Marion is a great place. You could stop there on the way into Columbus or on the way home. You won't have to wait long for a train to go by.
