Does anybody know why both the B&O and N&W built dead-end spurs into Hillsboro, Ohio.
Were the suppose to continue past Hillsboro?
Thanks

B&O and N&W in Hillsboro?
Re: B&O and N&W in Hillsboro?
I think they both just picked up pieces of railroad that were connected to them that happened to run into Hillsboro. The line the N&W picked up was originally supposed to be the Columbus and Ohio River RR. It was built from the Ohio River to Hillsboro and no further. Not sure about the line the B&O had into town.

The more I research the lines into Hillsboro it does look like the B&O is responsible for building their line into town. It would have been a relatively easy build for the hoped additional revenue onto the mainline. It was already the B&O's as of 1899.
