Marion Railfan Society Meeting Notice
Date: 10/17/15
Time: approx 7 PM
Place: Marion, Ohio depot

This month we are honored to have Mark Llunza from Chicago as our guest presenter. Mark's show will cover the Erie Lackawanna main line from Griffith to Huntington, IN in the 70's, plus a few of the railroads that crossed the EL. Mark also shot the interlocking towers at locations such as Hammond, Griffith, Kouts and North Judson. He will also cover the EL trains that went into Bensenville ,IHB Norpaul, Clearing Yard and their 51st Street piggyback yard and freight house in Chicago. Mark will end his show with a before and after showing what the Erie looked liked 40 years ago and what it looks like now and what's left of the old main line.

There should be time for a free-for-all after's Mark's show so please bring whatever you'd like to show. We can accommodate slides, or digital on a USB drive or laptop. Please try to limit your show to approx 30 minutes to give everyone a chance to show.
I'm sorry to report that Rich Ballash passed away on Oct 5 after suffering a stroke and heart attack. Rich was 59. Rich made the long trip to Marion from his home in Latrobe, PA many times over the years to attend our meetings. Being a tower buff, he really enjoyed our yearly Tower Night show. Rich was well versed in the operations of the PRR in Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed riding trails over abandoned lines, looking for vestiges of the past, which fascinated him much more than present day railroading. We will miss him.

All railfans are welcome at our meetings. There's no dues but donations are appreciated, and put to good use in maintaining the tower and depot so we can continue to enjoy both for many years to come. Join us before the meeting at the Shovel Restaurant next to the depot for dinner and railroad talk. We usually start congregating there about 5:30

Looking forward to seeing you at Marion depot! Next month is Tower Night with Mr. Tower himself, Dan Maners!
