Best Hotspot for Night-Time (Well Lighted Areas)
Within Ohio and Indiana, where is a place with good lighting (Street lamps, etc) or where there is good lighting for low light video? Maybe Deshler?

No thanks, I don't want to get robbed at gunpoint. Because, I've never done a 24-hour count before.ConrailMan5 wrote:Delray Michigan

Last weekend in Deshler we were able to light up the diamonds with car headlight hi-beams. That park is great for nighttime anyways, but normally the diamond isn't lit up per se.

You won't get robbed if you don't put yourself in that position. that is always my philosophy. Be aware and you can get a count anywhere.Tier4GEVO wrote:No thanks, I don't want to get robbed at gunpoint. Because, I've never done a 24-hour count before.ConrailMan5 wrote:Delray Michigan

But if that isn't you I wish you luck.

Maybe the Amtrak platform at Waterloo IN? I'd think they still keep that well lit - but haven't been there at night in years.

I do the majority of my train watching at night. Always have. Here's why I choose to do so:ConrailMan5 wrote:Delray Michigan

1: Cooler temperatures. I don't like to be in miserable heat if I don't have to.
2: Railroad is busier. Minimal maintenance issues and scheduling usually makes for increased train frequency.
3: Radio reception. I enjoy seeing how far I can hear, and it is always better at night.
4: Night owl. I am most awake from about 11am to about 1 or 2 am.
5: First shift employment.
Granted, I am not a video or photo person. That would definitely alter things.
Feeling at ease in a location usually dictates whether I will sit there after dark. I've been okay at Fostoria (B&O Depot area), Marion, Bryan, and Deshler. I would not sit anywhere I felt uneasy, but I have had few problems.
