I can remember pacing next to an Indiana Hi-Rail Alco back about 1994 i think and i remember it was around the Ind-Ohio state line, He had about a dozen cars or so just rocking back and forth badly, It is safe to assume that differed maintenance started catching up to the IHRC quite early.

3/29/17 while going from Defiance to Fort Wayne today on 24 I noticed a contractor spraying the ROW.. the line looks like crap still.. got more waves in it then a bag of Lays ! Pioneer has replaced a couple boat loads of ties and looks like I see ballast ! Train was headed east behind the spray truck..

Requirement of getting the money from the state. Also would have to post stop signs if rails still crossed the pavement.

Apparently the removal of the Route 24/6 crossing in Napoleon will be taking place soon.

How much of the line is being abandoned by cutting these crossings out?

About 5.5 miles. https://www.stb.gov/decisions/readingro ... enDocument Technically not an abandonment but rather a discontinuance of service between the far east end of the industrial park in Napoleon, just before the US24/6 grade crossing, and Liberty Center. All grade crossings to be removed, with rail in between left in place. So in theory service could be restored someday, although practicality would seem to dictate otherwise. The state of Ohio wanted the US24/6 crossing gone. The grain elevator in LC transloads to another grain elevator that is located on CSX, and then ships from there. The only customer in LC was a transload that I believe was related to the steel mill in Delta (used firebrick in gondolas, maybe). They have relocated to Napoleon. The diamond with I&O seemed to come and go as need required. Tank cars were stored on this stretch sometimes. So although not technically abandoned, it is highly doubtful you'll ever see another train in LC, unless a new connection were to be built from the I&O.

The firebrick was used firebrick but has nothing to do with the steel mill in Delta but actually headed to GHA in Delta, They also have a facility in Kendallville IN in the Industrial Park west of town that is planning on rail service as well. I believe you're correct that LC will never see another train...

Grain elevator at Liberty Center is owned by the same company building new grain loading facility between Delta and Wauseon on the NS.

Apparently the railroad crossing in Liberty Center at SR 109 was removed in early May.

Little late response but ND&W is currently doing a heavier than normal business in tomato paste; I understand there are roughly 60 cars inbound on the NS interchange alone. That should get dealt with this week...

Also; all the locomotives are supposed to be getting a bath this week.
Apparently I work on GEs now...

Last I recall there was a Gettysburg GP-7, a GP-20 and 2 GP-16s, any other power on the property?
