Here is the latest on power:

NS 4148 at Lima to be interchanged to CSX (was supposed to be done over the weekend) to forward to Defiance. NS 4154 is to follow shortly. PREX 3054 currently at Avon (Indianapolis) to be expedited to Defiance.

Was it still NW locos when they went to NS way back? Don't know much about the line around that time. I have seen a few pictures with NW locos. That's all.
Yes, but that is along what is called the Ft Wayne Moraine. Which is the extent of the glacier that formed the swamp. It is formally accepted as part of the black swamp. As the glacier moved down the Maumee basin. it stopped at Defiance for a long period. Then advanced further to reach its maximum extent at Ft Wayne. It did not last long at this location and started it withdrawal almost immediately in relationship to the life of the movement. After the glacier was gone and left behind the terrain that we current know as Northwest Ohio. The bulk of the true flooded wetlands that caused havoc on the region were located mostly around the Defiance Moraine and east along the path of the glacier. Getting worse as you got closer to modern day Toledo and up to Monroe, Michigan. The area between the Defiance and Ft Wayne Moraines is an accepted part of the Black Swamp region. However, the marshy wetlands were not very notable in this plain. It did have some, and yes does cause issues, but not nearly to the point of that east of the Defiance Moraine.

Was looking up the two NS units. Both are former NW. Found this picture of 4154.

Note the location of the picture. Looks like a homecoming of sorts if this unit will be used on the line.

Here is PREX 3054. exx-ATSF 1154, ex-ASRY 3054

So is there a logical reason NS is sending these 3 units (counting NS 5555), to help Pioneer? And with the use of NS power does that mean they are leasing said power or having to use NS crews?

I would guess that Pioneer needed something quick, and NS was able to deliver on short term lease.

NS crews would have no reason to venture onto the Pioneer segments.

That's if we can get power to Avon in enough time to get that engine on the train. Lately, we've been about 4 hrs behind power to train. Unless that changes, waybill engines will sit.

Practice Safe CSX

RAILROAD POSITIONS Napoleon, Defiance & Western Railroad. Railroad Positions - Local, full-time position available for a Track Foreman & Carman/Mechanical, Defiance, OH Email/Fax resume (the website has contact info for those interested)

Thought the use of the "Napoleon, Defiance & Western Railroad" name is interesting though.

So its the ND&W now? I must say the MAW was more catchy.
I'm just here to put in time claims and complain

I had been working toward starting something there pre-IHRC, and the name I had picked was Western Maumee Valley. Black with yellow "speedletter" scheme ala Western Maryland.

I would think that for any rock ballast to be effective, they would have to undercut the track to remove a good layer of the current dirt "ballast".

Chasing or waiting.. Gotta be careful with the word chasing when it comes to the ND&W Napoleon, Defiance & Western Railway.. They might use speed lettering but that is where speed stops !

CSX keeps cutting positions at Defiance in the track department. I may have to apply.
