The Toledo Branch has lost a customer. Blako Industries in Dunbridge has closed up shop blaming the economy.

In some respects I'm not surprised that they closed up shop, just from the outward appearances they seemed to be a small outfit that hadn't upgraded/invested to weather the storm. Too bad though

Good thing other online business has appeared in recent years to offset the loss of traffic in the Bowling Green area.
Mid Wood, Keystone Foods, Pinnacle Plastics, Southeastern Container, and I forgot the name of that chemical plant in Bowling Green

Considering what is to be coming in the next year or so, I"m pretty certain the Toledo Branch's future is very secure.
The new customer just north of Galatea isn't Keystone foods, Keystone is the meat processing plant (prime customer is McDonalds). From North to south, it's the new customer, the industrial gas facility and then Keystone.

Talk to anyone that's worked the Kenton jobs for CSX and you would wonder why any of them still use rail. Those Kenton locals get stuck waiting for everything and it takes forever some days for them to get anything done. I suspect the local customer service will continue slide with the connection @ Galatea done and the more traffic coming to the "branch".

AARR, I got a rail customer carrot dangling right in front of you. A local malt brewer on the west side of Dayton is expanding and rail service is the big buzzword here

The Facilty is something to do with GM, not sure if they actually get railcars but it was built in the last 3-4 years ago

Looks promising. Brewerys still receive inbound raw materials by rail but I am not aware of anyone who still ships out by rail except for Coors which IIRC ships bulk beer in tank cars out east to a plant where they are unloaded and bottled/canned.

The Coors brewery in Elkton,Va no longer recieves wort in insulated tank cars from Golden. Coors expanded the Virginia facility two years ago. The CORX tankers were a daily staple on NS' 111, which used to be a Kansas City to Roanoke train, now truncated to a Kansas City to Knoxville train (that carries a Roanoke block).

Coors may or may not still ship wort from Golden to their brewery in Memphis. They usually left Denver on BNSF's DENKCK (Denver to Kansas City), and part ways there. i do not know what they do now.

Yes and no...

Despite what some would say (and I know some of the rails that work this line but I also know the industry people they serve), Kenton has some things going for it. Plus, and some may be aware but others not, Kenton has a new bulk loading yard located south of town on Route 68. This is all tied back to not only the Galatea connection, but also the new connection at Ridgeway.

The branch traffic is not a constant stream of trains, basically you're gaining two trains with Q108/109 as you loose Q106/107. Yes, there may be more, but, its not a ballooning of traffic...at this time, you've got 6 trains, Q131/132, Q218/219 and Q106/107 (soon to be Q108/109) that call the line home on a regular basis. Add a grain train or two in season, and the locals...and you're still under 10 trains a day.

Guess its a matter of perspective, but, as present, people in Kenton are excited about the potential with CSX.

The Q132 isn't a daily visitor to the Branch either. If it is running with Autoracks, it will run to Marion and then north to Walbridge.

Daylight should be just about devoid of moves if Q132 is going via Marion on a given day. Q218/219 both are on the branch in the late evening to middle of the night. Q131 is normally on the branch in the middle of the night. Depending on Q108/109's schedule, they shouldn't be too big of a hindrance to a daylight locals work.

The closed Mills Pride plant in Waverly used to get a decent amount if inbound traffic for NS. Hopefully they can make a go if the plant. The areais really starving for jobs.

Slim and no chance of any of the new business from the airpark ending up using rail. Closest point access to the Midland is at best two miles. They still get a couple tank cars of deicer each year.

The Coshocton ethanol plant has a new owner who plans on having it up an running by October. Plant is on the southwest side of Coshocton alongside the old WLE line. I don't think the plant ever fully got into production.

Good news out of Lima. The General Dynamics Tank Plant received an 188 million dollar contract to manufacture tanks for Saudi Arabia..Means more tanks on NS or CSX trains out of Lima.
