Interesting article. Too bad it doesn't give a lot of info as to exactly where the expansion is taking place. Looking at it on google maps it's kinda hard to tell what's what, and the docks right on the lake appear to already have rails in place to them.redside20 wrote:Big plans for the Cleveland Port Authority to add rails

Yes it is a vague description at best, I guess well find out ourselves if this will ever materialize.Bellevue_Guy wrote:Interesting article. Consolidated Barge and Grain has made it official the building of a two million bushel grain elevator on the west side of Defiance. Location will load 90 car trains in a loop setup along CSX. Adding more traffic to already busy line. With this and Hamler going to 90 car sets.
Also add the reefer trains out of Kingsbury starting later this year things will be very busy during peak season this fall.

Re: Ohio rail business news
Looks like NS traffic will take a hit in Dayton. Appleton Papers is laying off 330 workers at their Dayton plant.

Re: Ohio rail business news
Traffic into Appleton Papers seems to have really declined in the past couple of years anyway. I think 7 or 8 years ago NS build a second siding for them near the plant when it was much busier.
Re: Ohio rail business news
Can Appleton Papers be seen from I75 on the west side? If it is I have seen it.
It is my understnading the paper business is an industry in decline and will continue to be so at least for the near future.

Yes AARR that's the plant in question. There used to be a track that ran along the property line near 75 that ran to the adjacent warehouse.

Prob means CSX might start listing the site on their website. Isn't that the place with the track to nowhere they built several years ago?

Re: Ohio rail business news
That's correct on both accounts. If I recall correctly, that was also the site that was being pitched to Hyundai back when they were scouting around for their assembly plant that they ended up building in Alabama.

NS serves the plant and brings in plastic centerflow hoppers. In any case, one less customer and loss of 65 jobs. not good..

With the coming of the new grain elevator at Defiance a new interlocking with dual crossovers will be installed west of FC Defiance.
Re: Ohio rail business news
Is that going to mean the elimination/removal of the single crossover at FC?JoJames wrote:With the coming of the new grain elevator at Defiance a new interlocking with dual crossovers will be installed west of FC Defiance.
