Ethanol Plant in Lima

Unread post by AARR »

Drove by the ethanol plant in Lima yesterday and it looks shut down. Half a dozen tank cars on the spur lead but no covered hoppers (usually 10-12 on the distillers grain spur) and no employee vehicles in the lot (that I could see anyway) and no appearance of plant activity. I think this is a IORY customer.

It went bankrupt awhile back, and I'm almost positive that they are completely shut down now.

With Vera-Sun declaring bankruptcy at nearly the same time, I'm guessing that those folks that wanted to buy ethanol plants at "distressed prices" saw better places to spend their money than the plant in Lima. As for Ford, the engine plant in Lima is still running and seems to be looked upon favorably corporately. As an aside, In my opinion, Ford is going to come out in the best shape of the "Detroit 3" by NOT taking the feds money - and all the restrictions that come with it (like the old saying "when you get in bed with a dog...you're bound to get fleas...).

Never got fleas myself, just smelly dog farts. Either isn't good...

Oh, and the other thing about a dog is they will find the exact center of the bed, and force you to the side. Sounds like what has happened to the management of GM. Not saying it wasn't necessary, but once you let them into bed, you aren't in control anymore.

Ford lucked out by being in worse shape than GM over a year ago and refinancing a ton of debt and borrowing bunches (as in billions) more BEFORE credit evaporated. Hope fully reintroducing the ban on short selling and eliminating the "mark to market" rule will reintroduce credit in this country.
