Derailment in Defiance, OH

Channel 11 in Toledo, OH just announced on their news program that there is a train derailment in Defiance, OH. I don't know if it is CSX or the shortline there. They have a news crew on the way there. You can go to http://www.wtol.com and they do a pretty good job of covering stories. Nothing is on their site as of now but should be something soon.

BREAKING NEWS

13 Action News is reporting that a train has derailed west of Defiance on Route 24 near the 424 intersection. There are reports of cars on fire. No injuries reported at this time.

q-381 derailed around milepost 91 haz mat cars involved more information when it is available . At least 23 cars involved with one on fire both mains blocked.

HazMat team has arrived on the scene, as well as firefighters from several different townships. If school closes I'll go check this out... if not, maybe tonight.

On CSX, explosion, haz mat cars involved (sodium hydroxide) per tv station. Live crew on way. They normally have video on their site.

If there is hazmat on fire, you wont be able to get close. Not really worth trying.

Fire already out, RJ Corman starting to pick up things already. Not going to last long. Most cars already off in a ditch, so shouldnt take long to get shoved out of the way. Just checked the computer and no reroutes shown yet.

NS is excepting detours 072-076-078 at Chicago.....all planned and getting called...no westbounds YET....looking like they are getting on the CSX at Toledo...as they arent showing planned east out of Toledo yet...this could change with them heading to Berea but doubt it....

There is an 071 ordered out of Cleveland right now, that's the only westbound detour I see.

Eastbounds there are 072-076-078 on duty between 10a and 11a out of Elkhart to taxi to PIne and bring trains east. I'd bet you won't see them in Ohio until early evening at the best.

**Just a note-luckily its Monday and you dont have as many UPS trains on CSX out of the east (on Sundays)...it will save 2 CSX 2 to 3 reroutes this evening

That would be entertainment worth going out for tonight if they run them via the Miami cut to get back on CSX at E. Broadway. (guess they could go up the Detroit line and across the backside also but that's a bit more roundabout) Just drove past there on Wales and nothing's been on those rails since snowfall started so the leader will be busting some drifts at crossings. Wish it was going to happen during daylight but doesn't sound real likely...

Sounds like the only shot for daylight in Toledo might be the 071 Westbound?

If I can get a decent approx. on time into Toledo I may try to get the 071. Assuming they wouldn't need to crew change? (or would they?)

Road's closed 'till the morning though...

I imagine they'll all get pushed off the side so they'll probably sit there a little while until they're scrapped in place or picked up & moved.

caught one of the detours unbeknowest to me...I didn't know about the derailment until I heard a symbol on the NS Chicago Line that was OBVIOUSLY not on of the Chi-GR trains....
