I've gotta go to Bera Ohio on Friday for work, and I was wondering what I could expect train wise, and what freqs I should listen to. I am not stopping in Fostoria I will not have the time. I'll be there all day, and may spend the night, not sure yet.

Yeah, what used to be Conrail's Water Level Route. Buffalo-Chicago

Mike, I've never been there but there used to be a restaurant where you could park and watch the action. I just read though that the restaurant is closing due to there are two railroad overpasses going in. One on Front St. and one on Eastland Rd. You might still be able to park in the lot though.

you can still park in the lot, and its busy as heck, dont have the frequencies, but you won't need them.

Last summer I was there for an hour and saw 12 moves.

Mike I dont have the channels in fron of me right now, but these are good guides to go on when you are on the old CR lines.

I know for sure the road west on the NS to toledo is 160.980

Others are 46, 64, 50, CSX has added Dispatcher channels to all the old CR lines, and I dont know them off hand.

Mabey some one here has a time table, for the great lakes division.

I'm at work & don't have my references, but here's a 2 year old post (by somebody else) from TO:

I'm at work, and the scanner is at home, so this is from my (fading) memory:
NS Cleveland Terminal: 161.07 Cleveland Terminal is east of Berea / CP194
NS Toledo East: 160.98 Yes...this is west of Berea
CSX IG: 160.86 East of CP13 West Road?
CSX IF: 160.80 West of CP13 " "

CSX does not call signals but there is a hot box detector on CSX IF that crews have to respond to. Track #1 is normally the eastbound track with trains that will pass through Berea. Also, there is a lot of talk by the IG Dispatcher as to moves through the "tunnels" A westbound through the tunnels in most cases will be going through Berea.

NS In addition to calling signals at Berea a westbound at CP Max (CP190) will be going through Berea and an eastbound at CP197 will be headed for Berea. "


The only thing I'd add is that the parking lot is great for watching but only good for morning photography (& limited angles at that). Afternoon/evening gets harshly back lit, although there's not as much 'evening' this time of year anyway. Having a scanner and moving around in the town can produce better shots (that I've seen, but have yet to try personally).
