Washington Court House Terminal Railroad (WCHT)

Unread post by chapmaja »

The Washington Court House Terminal Railroad (WCHT) will be a subsidiary company of the GLOR, operating the Fayne Industiral Track of the GLOR in WCH. This railroad will be operated in conjunction with the Greenfield Midland, as the same crews generally work both lines currently.

Customers of the WCHT include

Nutrien Ag Solutions Washington C.H. Fertilizer Plant Covered Hoppers
Stark Truss Washington C.H. Lumber Yard Centerbeam Flatcars
Fiber-Tech Industries Washington C.H. Fiberglass Paneling Boxcars
Hill's Pet Nutrition Washington C.H. Pet Food Products Covered Hoppers Formerly Red Collar Pet Foods.
Lowe's Distribution Washington C.H. Building Products Centerbeam Flatcars/Boxcars
Domtar Paper Washington C.H. Free Sheet Paper Boxcars
G.K. Packaging Washington C.H. Packaging Products Covered Hoppers

The crews for the GLOR/WCHT will normally hop on their power at VFW post near the diamond with the Midland Subdivision. They will run their train through WCH, picking up outbound cars from the multitude of industries they service, before heading west on the Midland Subdivision. They will then use the double track of the Midland Subdivision to organize their outbound cars for delivery to Konrad Yard on the GLOR, or leave them for interchange with the Midland Subdivision.

They will then pick up outbound cars from the GLOR (both from the Midland Subdivision and the DT&I subdivision in Konrad Yard) and then head back to WCH, spotting cars as needed.

The same crew is generally working the Greenfield Subdivision, although recently an extra crew has been called on several occassions to to an uptick on traffic on the WCH Fayne Industrial Track. Crews have generally worked T-Th-Sat on this line, although the extra crews have often been called to work M-W-F.

Power on the lines has been very much a mixed back, with just about all forms of 4 axels being used. Most common have been GP38-2s, but some of the GP39 service units have made their way into WCH on occassion for use on the train. The reason the power is kept at the VFW hall on the wye track is simply location. There is not an engine house yet (one is in the planning stages), so they need someplace with easy parking access and the VFW property provides that.

The lines tracks have been upgraded to 286 capacity. The speed limit on the line is 10mph due to its location and profile, but because of track conditions. Once on the GLOR's line, the speed limit is 25-40 mph.

A couple non-customers of the line have expressed interest in resuming rail service in WCH as well.

Purina Animal Nutrition has a spur to their facility, but it hasn't gotten rail service in several years.

Plastilene, a food packaging manufacturer, is also in talks with the GLOR to provide rail service to the facility. The facility was opened in the former Rock-Tenn facility and also includes a rail spur, off the line to Fiber-Tech.

Finally, the GLOR has the option to purchase a plot of land north of the Fayne Industrial Track, and west of Old Chillicothe Rd SE, which they are considering using to build a transload and engine house. Several other potential customers in WCH lack direct rail access and are currently using a transload a substantial distance from WCH. Customers who have agreed to be part of the project include include a couple other packaging places and a propane dealer from a nearby community.
