Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western

Unread post by MissPhoebeSnow »

A "what if" of the Lackawanna Railroad, if the E-L merger didn't happen. This is set in present time.

A brief history:
The real DL&W was created in 1853 and served Northeastern Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. In 1960, it merged with Erie and became EL. However, this is changed. In 1959, multiple new coal mines opened up in NE Pennsylvania, adding more traffic. In the mid-1960s, more lines were added including a joint line with Reading into Harrisburg, a joint line with Pennsylvania to Altoona and points west, and a line with D&H to upstate NY. By the 1970s, as intermodal was introduced, 2 designated trains were created, NB-1 and NB-2. NB-1 and 2 run from intermodal terminals in near New York harbor and Buffalo. By the late '70's, the Lackawanna had nearly tripled in size and revenue. In the 1990's, orders of AC4400CW, AC6000CW, and SD70MAC allowed for heavier coal drags to be moved, and in 2008, the first orders of ES44-series and SD70ACe arrived. The Lackawanna is primarily freight, but still continues to operate the Phoebe Snow from Hoboken to Buffalo and short distance train commuter trains in the NY area.
