Chicago Central & Pacific RR

Unread post by heartlandguy »

The Chicago Central and Pacific Railroad (reporting mark: CC) is a large Class 2 regional railroad connecting Chicago, Illinois with Sioux City, Iowa, Omaha, Nebraska, and other cities in the Midwest. The railroad began in 1985 when the Illinois Central RR spun off its line through central Iowa. The CC operated with a rag-tag fleet of EMD Geeps, mainly former IC units (including several "Paducah-built" units) as well as a handful of former Milwaukee RR GP20s, and 5 GP38s. The route was absorbed back into the IC in 1996, andsoon the IC was merged into the TSCR in 1998. In 201e, the TSCR sold these lines to the newly formed CC&P Co., and the CC&P was back in action. We also have subsidiary, the Cedar River Railroad (CEDR), who operates from Waterloo, IA to Albert Lea, MN.

We have again organized our rag-tag fleet of GP10s, GP18s, GP38s, etc., but we also have added newer power, in the form of GP50s and SD50-2s from the TSCR. We paint our units in a red and white scheme with the green "Chicago Central" diamond under the cab, but several units still retain their past RR's colors (IC, ICG, MILW, and others). The roster will be put up later...

The line is CTC'd from Chicago to Fort Dodge, IA, where the mainline splits and one line goes east, and the other south. Those two lines are controlled by ABS, as well as the line to Cedar Rapids. All other branches are dark territory. The route has a mix of old IC signals and new LED color light signals. Our dispatchers office is located in Waterloo, IA. Below is a map of our route (CC&P in green, CEDR in blue):

Interesting cab, but instead of saving it as a .jpeg, save it as a .png and it won't come out so poopily.
I'm just here to put in time claims and complain

Thanks DT&I, that worked. The cab is an "extended cab" and, from what I've seen, is something PC did with a handful of their GP38s.

No problem, yea I believe HLCX owns all those ex-PC GP38's. Some are still in Conrail Quality.

Those were the former PRSL GP38's for bi-directional controls.
The Pennsylvania, Reading Seashore Lines bought several dual control stand GP-38's. To accomodate the stands, the cab had to be extended outward. These were in the series PRSL 2000-2009, which became CR 7660-7669.

Interesting, thanks for the information Greg. Hadn't found much other history behind them other than they were from PC.

The CC&P will be leasing anywhere from 5 to 10 TSCR C40-8s for the big grain and ethanol rush coming this fall. They are currently sitting unused in TSCRs shops in Chicago. We will be sending a handful of people to pick them out later this week. We hope to have them on property by September for specific use on grain and ethanol, as well as stone trains...
