The New Chessie System.

Unread post by ES44AH »

Created in february of 1973, the Chessie System was created when the B&O, C&O, and WM were placed under a single holding company. In 1980, Chessie merged with the Seaboard System to create CSX transportation. In a joint ownership between the CSX and the M&N, Chessie returns to the rails. It operates on M&N owned trackage between Baltimore and Pittsburg and CSX is in charge of Chessie's finances. The motivepower is supplied by CSX, but is under M&N ownership and wear the iconic Yellow, Vermillion, and Blue. The new headquarters in located in the M&N's former B&O office building in Baltimore, MD. This reincarnation will give the famous Kitten 9 more lives.

Chessie's New roster:
25-26: GP9
4000-4020: C40-8W
4100-4130: GP40-2
4300-4305: SD70ACe
4400-4410: ES44AC
4411-4415: AC4400CW
GM50: GP40-2

Chessie engines will be kept at M&N's Brunswick terminal an repair at the Mt.Clare diesel shops.

For now, we are using M&N and CSX power. Our new train symboling will be like the M&N's. The symbol represents start point, end point, and todays date.

train list:
BC-: Baltimore-Cumberland Mixed freight. Westbound.
CB-: Cumberland-Baltimore Mixed freight. Eastbound.
BW-: Baltimore-Washington Intermodal (Jet Train). Westbound (timetable west from Baltimore.)
WB-: Washington-Baltimore Intermodal
BF-: Baltimore-Frederick Mixed freight (Runs between M&N BFF-1 and FBF-2)
FB- Frederick- Baltimore Mixed freight.
Sw-Baltimore Switcher.
CP- Cumberland- Pittsburg. Intermodal (to CSX intermodal terminal)
PC-Pittsburg-Cumberland. Intermodal

We won't have the amount of traffic as our previous, Pre-CSX form.

First trains on the New Chessie System:
BC-11: MNTX 502, MNTX 510. Departs after BCF-1 (4:30pm)
Sw-11: CSX 1182 (MP15AC).

We are reveiling what 4164 really is. 4164 left the B&O as a standard GP40-2, until Chessie repainted it. In 1977, 4164 was painted in Gold for General Motors 50th anniversary. She kept her gold paint until 1984 when she was repainted into Chessie yellow, vermillion, and red and lost her GM50 number. She was renumbered as 4164. Untl recently, the GP40-2 was CSX 6063. Today will be the few times GM50 will be used in mainline service. She will primarily be used for special occasions.
