(From M&N): An advisor from the Mt. Clare shops is riding along to instruct the crews of the Northwestern about the engine. We have sent down Observation Car #1 Maryland as a testcar to run with the CE-9 locomotive.

@Chessie
OF course. Do whatever you need to. Our shops are open if you need anything.
@M&N
We are sure the Northwestern Railroad will appreciate that.

We were looking around in the older Conway, SC Diesel Shops, and we found a strange Conrail loco. Can we get some history on the unit?
Some specs:
Labeled as Conrail GP48U-2SG
Apparently EX-ARR
Unit number: 4400
Prime Mover: EMD 12-710G3A
Power Output: 3,000 hp
Dynamics: No
Rooftop Beacon: Yes
Extra Equipment: Long Range Radio, Rooftop Headlight, Rear End Hood-mounted Bell, Torpedo Tubes on the Hood, Steam Generator

I dont know about this one, interesting though. The piping on the hood is the airtanks and associated pipes. The "Torpedo Tubes" on the roof allow for a larger fueltank or if it has a steam generator, a water tank.

When the main line is finally reopened the CSE wants to partnership with the Carolina Southern and Detriot Southern handling autoparts from Willimington NC up to Detroit Mich via the CS, CSE, and the DS. Finished Autos would be brought down the other way. Let us know what the CS thinks about this shipping agreement.

That can be arranged. We have some SD45-2s we can use for these. We have also been working on the Piedmont Corridor, which is a high speed double track mainline from Sanford, NC to North Willkesboro, NC, and Roanoke, VA, so these auto trains can get from Wilmington to Detroit faster.

That sounds great. The CSE will run them like scared dogs to keep the traffic from the Norfolk Southern and CSX as we care about the smallest customers on the CSE

Is this ture?
I heard from MQT that the Paper railroads section is starting over.
If so, the Carolina Southern will once again be part of the Paper Railroads, running over EX NS track from Greensboro, NC, to Sanford, NC, and Burlington, NC.

Not starting over, DT&I and his TSCR just left. His lines revert to normal, minus the old GRP, which atrainguy will run.
Continue on as usual.

The GP60-3SLG that the CS has borrowed has been sent back.
It performed well for switching duties, and it was even good for several mainline freights, reaching a top speed of 72 MPH.
The crews absolutely loved it. They said it felt like driving an older SD40-2, which they loved.
Also, the Carolina Southern has purchased an SD45X from EMD.

Breaking News Today!
Just this morning, the Carolina Southern has set a record time between Winston Salem and Rocky Mount, moving a passenger train from Winston Salem to Rocky Mount.
The record time:
1 hour 45 minutes
The new record was set by the recently purchased H-1b 4-6-4 steam locomotive which was built by the M&NTCo Cumberland Shops Locomotive Works in Cumberland.
The Carolina Southern has also recently completed an improvement project, with now a double track running from Sanford, NC, to North Wilkesboro, NC, and Roanoke, VA. The new lines can handle a significantly bigger amount of rail traffic now.
In other news, the Northwestern Railroad has a rail-crossing accident in West Jefferson, NC Yesterday. Crews have told us that the train, which was heading down the mountain, hit a tanker truck trying to cross the railroad track and dragged it about a mile and a half down the mountain. Clean up crews have been dispatched to respond to the situation.

The Carolina Southern has absorbed the Chesapeake & Albemarle. The merger took place yesterday, and now much needed track maintenance has begun. Much of the track is degrading severely in places and is almost destroyed. Two of the 4 locomotives have been put out of service, one for a busted prime mover, and the other was in this wreck:
Both GP38s will be put back into service by the end of the year.
The CEO of the Carolina Southern Railroad, Noel Coltrane, has announced the creation of a new terminal railroad that will replace the C&A AND will co-operate with the Carolina Southern. The CTT, or the Chesapeake & Tarboro Terminal, will run from Chesapeake, VA, to Tarboro, NC, with a line that passes through Elizabeth City, NC.
The Carolina Southern is also initiating a rebuild program. We are rebuilding old ALCOs to bide by the EPA Tier-3 Standards. Each of the old ALCO C424s will get a complete overhaul, contain new electrical systems, a new EMD 16-710G3C-T2 prime mover, new Rebuilt AC Traction Motors, and refurbished AAR Type B Trucks.
